Instagram for iPad

Instagram is a wildly popular social network centered around photo and video sharing, but for the majority of its life it has been available only for iPhone and Android. But not anymore, as Instagram finally has made an app available for iPad users too.

Instagram for iPad includes all the major features you’d want and expect from an Instagram app, including the ability to browse feeds, search, post images and videos, post and edit reels, use the direct messaging features, and more. You can even use most of the Instagram tricks for iPhone the same way on iPad, including handy adjustments like viewing your feed chronologically instead of the default algorithm view, and hiding the annoying Suggested Posts that clutter up everyones feeds by default.

The Instagram for iPad app is a nice addition for iPad users of the social network app, but it does look a little strange on the iPad when in horizontal landscape mode, like what is required when using an Apple Magic Keyboard or standard desktop setup for iPad, as there’s a significant amount of empty space. This is partially improved by switching to Portrait or Vertical orientation on iPad, but there’s still some extra wasted space that could be better utilized. In some ways it looks like a stretched out version of the iPhone app slapped onto iPad, but again, for iPad users, the introduction of a dedicated iPad app for the social network is welcome. And since Instagram app is now available for iPad, one may be wondering if an Instagram for Mac app will become available next, which is certainly a possibility, but in the meantime Mac users can run the iPhone or iPad app on their Apple Silicon Mac, or use this nifty trick to have an Instagram app on the Mac by saving the web app as an application in the MacOS Dock.

If you’re an Instagram user and an iPad owner, be sure to check out the Instagram app for iPad, it’s a free download from the App Store and available now:
