Beta 7 of iOS 14 & iPadOS 14 Available to Download
Apple has released iOS 14 beta 7 for iPhone and iPod touch, and iPadOS 14 beta 7 for iPad. The new beta version is available for users enrolled in the beta system software programs. Typically a developer beta build is available first and soon followed by the same build as a public beta release.
Additionally, Apple has made new beta builds of macOS Big Sur beta 6, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14 available.
Beta system software is intended for testing purposes and to be run by more advanced users, but anyone can enroll in the iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 public beta programs if they feel so inclined.
iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 include a variety of new features, including widgets for iPhone home screen, an App Library feature for easier app management, instant language translation tools, improvements to Messages, improvements to Safari, and many other smaller features and changes.
How to Download iOS 14 Beta 7 & iPadOS 14 Beta 7
Always backup the iPhone or iPad to iCloud or a computer before installing software updates, and that is especially so with beta releases.
- Open the “Settings” app
- Go to “General”
- Go to “Software Update”
- Select “Download and Install” as “iOS 14 beta 7” or “iPadOS 14 beta 7” shows as available to update
As usual, installing software updates requires the device to reboot.
Beta system software is less stable and reliable than finalized versions. Thus it’s generally only appropriate for advanced users to run beta system software. Many users are curious about the beta releases and want to try out new features however, which is why Apple offers the public beta testing program. Generally speaking it’s best to only run beta system software on secondary devices that are not mission critical, as beta software is prone to issues that may not be experienced on final stable releases. Apple has said that iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 will be released this fall to the general public. The most recent version of stable non-beta system software is currently iOS 13.7 and iPadOS 13.7 for iPhone and iPad.
Separately, Apple also released macOS Big Sur beta 6, tvOS 14 beta 7, and watchOS 7 beta 7 to users beta testing those system software releases on eligible devices.
