MacOS Monterey Beta 1 Download Now Available
The first beta version of macOS Monterey (macOS 12) has been released for users enrolled in the Apple Developer program to download. A public beta of macOS Monterey is set to debut in July.
macOS Monterey includes a variety of new features, including improvements to FaceTime like screen sharing and a grid view, the ability to use a single mouse and keyboard across Mac and iPad with a feature called Universal Control, changes to Safari tabs and tabs grouping, the inclusion of the Shortcuts app on Mac, improvements to Messages, a Focus feature for Do Not Disturb, a Quick Notes feature for creating app-specific notes that also appear in Notes app, the ability to use a Mac as an AirPlay destination for displays and audio, Live Text which lets you select text from images, improvements to Maps, Privacy improvements, Low Power Mode for Mac laptops, and more.
Developer betas are typically less reliable than public betas, so more casual interested users should wait for the public beta version in July. Nonetheless, technically anyone enrolled in the Apple Developer program can download and install macOS Monterey beta now.
macOS Monterey Compatible Macs
MacOS Monterey has a stricter compatibility list than Big Sur did.
The following Mac hardware can run macOS Monterey: iMac 2015 and later, Mac Pro late 2013 and later, iMac Pro 2017 and later, Mac mini late 2015 and later, MacBook 2016 and later, MacBook Air 2015 and later, and MacBook Pro 2015 and later.
Downloading MacOS Monterey Developer Beta
Users must be actively enrolled in the Apple Developer program to download and access the macOS Monterey beta. Be sure to back up the Mac with Time Machine before beginning.
- Visit http://developer.apple.com/download/ to download the beta profile for MacOS Monterey
- Installing the beta profile allows macOS Monterey to show up in the Software Update control panel
- Go to Apple > System Preferences > and choose ‘Software Update’ to find macOS Monterey beta available to download
The download for MacOS Monterey (macOS 12 beta) is rather large, at nearly 13GB.
Downloading macOS Monterey places and installer file into your Applications folder. This installer application can be used to create a bootable install drive if desired.
Beta system software is notoriously unreliable, therefore running beta system software is not recommended for most users. Ideally, advanced users will run beta system software on a non-primary Mac.
Users enrolled in the beta testing programs can also find iOS 15 beta 1, iPadOS 15 beta 1, and watchOS 8 beta 1 available to download as well.
The final version of macOS Monterey is set to debut in the fall.
Has someone Downloaded the Pkg and completed installation Plz share the app file with me after installation
Well, guess I’ll have to be sure to upgrade Big Sur 11.5 when available.
My iMAC is mid 2014. Can’t justify an upgrade just to be current.
Seems they will try to force their users to M1 :-(
Its also easily downloadable from within the MD5 app
For the curious, the macOS Monterey beta can be downloaded by anyone. All you need is the beta profile.
One approach is to enroll a Mac in beta in Terminal:
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Seeding.framework/Versions/A/Resources/seedutil enroll DeveloperSeed
https://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-10.16seed-10.16-10.15-10.14-10.13-10.12-10.11-10.10-10.9-mountainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog.gz
Then you can use the direct download link from Apple:

You can also have a developer friend send you the beta access tool (it’s just a profile), or use the betaprofiles site to download the profile installer.
This is probably really buggy so I would not recommend it to most people.
