Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 Jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 Released [Download Links]

Dec 19, 2011 - 22 Comments

Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 has been released by the iPhone DevTeam to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. It is still a tethered jailbreak and the process is mostly the same as before, except users no longer have to point the redsn0w application at older 5.0 IPSW.

Supported hardware continues to be iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 3rd or 4th gen. The iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are yet to work, but the upcoming untethered iOS 5 jailbreak should bring those two devices as well.

Mac and Windows versions are available:

If you’re already jailbroken on iOS 5.0.1, this version of redsn0w won’t be of much use to you, although the updated version includes a variety of bug fixes and minor changes to supported hardware.

Update: Here is a guide on how to use redsn0w 0.99b9 to jailbreak iOS 5.01

Update 2: Updated links to latest version, Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d

    I have a iPhone 4 – 5.0.1 (9A405) and my modemfrimware is 04.11.08
I jailbreaked the phone with this version of redsn0w and i can start it up with “boot tethered right now” but i can’t use another simcard after installed ultrasn0w.

Why is that? Wrong modemfrimware? Will it ever work with my 04.11.08 frimware and if, when?

    • Mbamm says:

Use redsn0w to boot tethered, that is why it’s called a tethered jailbreak it has to be booted with redsn0w or it stays on the pineapple.

i have updated to ios 5.0.1 but i want to jailbreak it via redsnow…..Can any one tell me during that select IPSW is it necessary to download ios 5.0.1 firmware again…..?
Or where can i found dat already downloaded ios 5.0.1 in my pc..?

  10. EJ says:

Wow. So far the smoothest jailbreak Ive ever done. No problems whatsoever so far. Of course I came off lucky having the old bootroom, but that only means it should be even greater when everyone that must semitether gets to untether.

Works great… I updated, but afterward discovered 5.0.1 isn’t super great; so I’ve been angry about it all week because I couldn’t downgrade… I downgraded 3 i pods from 5.0.1. The first 2 were rolled back to 4.3.3; the last was 4.1 and had to be jailbroken with Limera1n. It is possible as long as your shsh blobs are on Cydia’s server and as long as you use redsnow 0.9.9b.9d.

      1. click shsh blobs
      2. enter DFU mode and click FETCH; let redsnow do its thing.
      3. re-enter DFU mode and click VERIFY; choose the file created by FETCH
      4. afterward, click Submit to submit ECID (long number on the file created by FETCH) to Cydia.
      5. Click query; enter ECID in here; VERY IMPORTANT THAT IT MATCHES THE NUMBER FROM THE FETCHED FILE!!! This will show you all of the shsh blobs that are saved on Cydia’s server. (I.E.; 4.1; 4.3.3; 4.3.4; 4.3.5; etc…)
      6. Decide what firmware you want to use and download the stock file (Limera1n has all of them). Afterward, USE REDSNOW TO ENTER PWNED DFU MODE (just above shsh blobs).
      7. Now change your host file to 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com. This should be the only line beyond source server and client host. Simply skip a line, paste, then save.

*Really works as long as Cydia has your shsh blob; shsh blob must be on the query list!!

      8. Enter itunes and shift+restore; remember, you must be in PWNED DFU MODE and not regular DFU mode there is a difference. Click the stock firmware and enjoy.

      9. Once finished I know you’re ready to jailbreak but first go back to redsnow. Using the stitching option under shsh blobs follow the directions to create a custom firmware that you can always easily downgrade to; takes about 30 minutes from start to finish. This works as of 12/20/2011.

it wont let me even DL the link WTF FML…

  13. […] Redsn0w 0.9.9b9 isn’t the first jailbreak for iOS 5.0,1, but it’s certainly much easier to use thanks to native 5.0.1 support. This basically means you don’t have to point it at older firmware to perform the jailbreak, but it does still require a tether boot. […]

I got all excited thinking this was the untethered jailbreak. fml :(
