It looks like a few of the background pictures that Apple selected for OS X Mountain Lion come from the National Geographic Photo Contest wallpaper collection we posted a while back. Regardless of where they come from, they’re all gorgeous as usual.
Like these? Check out more wallpapers we’ve posted in the past.
Thanks for sending these in JM
Thank you for beautiful wall paper.
nice wal paper
Why isn’t there a nice Puma to go with all the rest? I like the Snow Leopard pictures, and the Lion, so why no Felis Concolori?
Does anyone know who took the Antelope Canyon shot?
A photographer by the name Ed Graunke took that picture.
Antelope Canyon is beautiful, I want to go there someday and see it for myself.
Lovely pictures don’t automatically turn into good wallpapers. Those are great pictures, but poor wallpapers. A good wallpaper should not distract the user, and should allow to easily pick-up icons. None of these does.
There is a process of what may be called “assholification” of users: more and more people are getting devices while they actually should stick to pen an paper (supposing they can actually read and write).
During my first years as a technician, I used to laugh with colleagues about people using holiday or family pictures as desktop images. Today, OSes are encouraging people to do so. Lame…
Well, not all folks have a desktop filled with icons…
this reply is just arrogant and whiny. Let people do what they want, and do what you want, tech or no tech…
You’re right, all knowing holy wallpaper elitist. How could the world’s largest most powerful technology corporation hire a pack of noobs? If only they had hired you, Enrico, to select the most appropriate choices of wallpaper possibilities. How could this community have doubted you? To turn your amazing skills away?
It appears that “the worldās largest most powerful technology corporation” (if that’s Apple that you’re referring to) could do with help in a number of areas of GUI design, for example.
By mocking the OP’s name and taking the arrogant stance that you do, you come across as some pathetic 13 year old weenie. But perhaps you are.
I dare you to be distracted by the piles of white snow. DARE you.
The geometric and orange abstracts, though.
Mountain Lion wallpapers are realy nice. Thanks for the links of images and also thanks dan for the giant archive link on mediafire.
Here is one of the snow tree pictures from Nat Geo it is already cut into iPhone size too if anyone wants it

Thank God! Mac OS X Lion didn’t have THAT good of wallpapers as Snow Leopard did. Mountain Lion’s wallpapers are DEFINITELY beautiful <3
Aren’t these copyrighted works of art? Wouldn’t distribution here or elsewhere without license to do so be illegal?
Apple licenses the images from someone else, they put them in a beta, and then every Apple blog in the universe posts them. Wallpapers always get leaked though, whether it’s Windows 8 or iOS.
Does that make it any less illegal or wrong?
What’s wrong about posting wallpapers? Are you the wallpaper police?
Maybe he’s the police-police, because copyright infringement is precisely what you’d be doing if distributing without attribution or permission.
LOL you guys are all dorks, they are PICTURES linked to on some picture website. Chill out.
Joe Schmoe… speeding is more of a crime then linking to some images. Are you 8 years old? Then grow up, if you are older than that, probably you have been speeding more than once… Doom on you!
Apple has these anyways in the public soon, and most of these images are already public (Nat. Geographic)…
cutofmac.com has them all in-one http://www.cultofmac.com/173246/here-are-all-of-the-hi-res-wallpapers-from-the-latest-os-x-mountain-lion-beta/?utm_medium=twit&utm_campaign=spread-WHAT
