MacOS 27 Golden Gate public beta is available

Apple has opened the public beta program for MacOS 27 Golden Gate to all curious Mac users. While betas are typically best reserved for advanced users due to being buggier and less stable than final builds, the public beta program offers an opportunity for users to experience beta development and upcoming features, ahead of the fall release of MacOS 27.

MacOS 27 Golden Gate has an emphasis on performance improvements, with speedier and more accurate Spotlight, new Siri AI features, new Apple Intelligence features, a Liquid Glass slider to adjust the intensity of the UI, along with many other small changes and improvements.

Separately, Apple has also released iOS 27 public beta for iPhone, and iPadOS 27 public beta for iPad. You’ll also find public betas for watchOS 27 and tvOS 27 if you’re curious about those too.

If you’re already running the MacOS Golden Gate 27 developer beta, there’s no need to switch to the public beta, as the latest dev beta matches the latest public beta build.

How to Get MacOS 27 Golden Gate Public Beta

Obtaining access to the MacOS 27 public beta is done by enrolling your Apple ID in the public beta program. You must have a MacOS 27 Golden Gate compatible Mac (any Apple Silicon Mac is eligible) to be able to run the public beta, and you should always backup your Mac before starting any system software update.

  1. Back up your Mac before beginning
  2. Go to https://beta.apple.com/ in a browser to sign up for the public beta testing program with your Apple ID
  3. Next, go to  Apple menu, and then go to “System Settings”
  4. Go to “General” and choose “Software Update”, then select “Beta Updates”
  5. Choose “MacOS 27 Golden Gate Public Beta”

  8. Choose to install the MacOS 27 public beta

Your Mac will download and install the MacOS 27 public beta, and after restarting, you’ll be running the Golden Gate beta operating system.

If you’re already running the MacOS Golden Gate 27 dev beta, there’s no reason to switch, since the latest dev beta will match the latest public beta build number.

If you prefer, you can also choose to download a MacOS 27 Golden Gate full installer, or MacOS 27 IPSW firmware file directly from Apple CDN servers. These files are useful for clean installs, creating boot disks,
