iOS 12.4.4 update

Apple has released iOS 12.4.4 for users of some older iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch hardware that are not eligible for the latest iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 release.

The update includes security updates and is therefore recommended for all users who are running a compatible device.

The release coincides with the availability of iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 updates, which is also available to download for newer iPhone and iPad models.

iOS 12.4.4 Compatibility

Specifically, iOS 12.4.4 is available to download for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPad Air 1st generation, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch 6th generation.

Later devices should install the latest version of iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 instead. Earlier devices that are not supported will remain on whatever the latest version of system software is for that particular hardware model.

How to Download & Install iOS 12.4.4 Update

Be sure to backup the iPhone or iPad to iCloud or a computer before installing any software update.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”, and then to “Software Update”
  3. Select “Download & Install” when the update for “iOS 12.4.4” is shown as available

The iPhone or iPad will restart itself to complete installation of the software update.

The iOS 12.4.4 update is fairly small, weighing in around 50mb for most users coming from a prior iOS version.

iOS 12.4.4 Release Notes

Release notes accompanying iOS 12.4.4 are quite brief, stating simply “iOS 12.4.4 provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.” with a reference to an Apple support article (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210787) detailing information about a specific FaceTime bug.

Separately Apple also release updates to MacOS Catalina 10.15.2, iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3, watchOS 6.1.1, and tvOS 13.3.

My iPad won’t update 12.4.4 – I keep getting an error when I try (right at the beginning) …. now what? I’ve been wanting to update as I can’t download Netflix until I have iOS 12. Any ideas?

Try connecting the iPad to a computer and using iTunes to update the iPad to iOS 12.4.4 It’s a bit frustrating but that should work.

Also you can try restarting the iPad (hold down Power button and Home button until the Apple logo shows up on screen if it has a home button) then trying to update again.

Katarina De Chu, no it doesn’t clearly explain the answers to Lali Raj‘s questions. And no, if Lali doesn’t know what IPSW means, it does not mean they don’t need the update. Your response is ignorant, arrogant, and less than unhelpful. If you are just going to bash someone for asking an innocent question, please, just opt to shut up instead.

  5. Bud Wills says:

3 finger double tap to zoom no longer magnifies the screen very much in iOS 12.4.4. Magnification is barely perceptible, even with setting at 15x.

The article explains this, why didn’t you read the article?

If you don’t know what IPSW is, you don’t need it.

How can i unlock my blocked in the zoom mode screen since i have iphone7s but doule tap does not work and i do not now how to do it please help

    • mp3macho says:

Since you mention zoom and double-tap isnt working. If you mean your iphone is stuck in a zoomed-in state and its difficult to see things because you cant zoom out.Do a 3 finger double-tap(don’t lift), then drag down to zoom out, up to zoom in. Or if you Show Controller already enabled, you can try a 3 finger triple-tap to show controller and when the menu appears zoom controls appear also.

Nice that apple is supporting older devices stuck on 12 but its more than likely its just security updates more than anything. But way better then what you get with Android.

updated to 12.4.4, now my 5s will not make nor receive a phone call. Did a hard reset; only tone phone call worked, none since. A call to another cell phone results in “call failed”.
