iOS 8.1 Download Released with Apple Pay, Camera Roll, Wi-Fi Fix, Bug Fixes, etc

ios-8-1

Apple has released iOS 8.1 for all compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. The update offers a variety of new features for mobile devices, and also resolves some of the bugs and issues that existed with prior versions of iOS 8. The iOS 8.1 update is recommended for all users to install on their respective devices.

iOS 8.1 features include Apple Pay support, which allows mobile payments to be made at participating retail providers from an iPhone using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and major US banks; additionally, there is the inclusion of iCloud Photo Library, new Continuity features for Mac users with Yosemite, the re-inclusion of Camera Roll in the Photos app, and many additional changes and bug fixes. The complete release notes for iOS 8.1 can be found below.

It is not yet known if iOS 8.1 resolves all experienced issues with battery drain and iOS 8 wi-fi connection difficulties that were encountered by some individuals running iOS 8 and iOS 8.0.2, but preliminary reports are encouraging.

Download & Install iOS 8.1 with Software Update

The simplest way for most users to download and install the iOS 8.1 update is through the Over-The-Air software update mechanism directly on their devices. You must be on a wi-fi network for this to work. Download sizes for iOS 8.1 depend on the device being installed upon, ranging from as small as 160MB to as large as 2GB.

  1. Back up the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iCloud or iTunes
  2. Open the “Settings” app and then “General” and to “Software Update”
  3. Choose “Download & Install” and let the update process complete

iOS 8.1 Download

Do not skip the back up process, it is rare but things occasionally go wrong and you do not want to lose your data.

The update may sit on “Preparing Update” for quite some time before beginning the actual installation. Just let it sit and complete the process.

iOS 8.1 can require a sizable amount of free storage space available to install. If you do not have free space available to complete the installation, you can follow these instructions and install it through iTunes, thereby circumventing the storage space limitation.

Install & Update to iOS 8.1 with iTunes

Users also have the option of connecting their iOS device to iTunes and installing the iOS 8.1 update that way. This is the best way to install the update if you don’t have storage available on the device to install iOS 8.1 with OTA. Again, be sure to back up to iTunes before you do this.

iOS 8.1 IPSW Firmware Download Links

Direct links to firmware downloads from Apple servers are available below. For best results, use Chrome or Safari and choose “Save As” when downloading the IPSW file, be sure it has a .ipsw file extension (it is not a zip or archive).

  9. Anastasia says:

I don’t know why, but with the new update, I am now unable to download apps. I click on them, and all it does is go back to the free button. I’m really mad, and someone needs to fix this. I tried restarting my phone, logging in and out of the App Store, using cellular to download, closing all of my running apps, getting rid of all my newish apps, and still nothing. I really need help, so if anyone knows what’s going on, please help me. I’ve got an iPhone 5c, and it is completely up to date. I’ve only used a little of my storage, so I have no idea what is happening!

  10. M.J. says:

Well now I’m convinced something is “Fishy” about 8.1 update. I started keeping track of what happens when my phones WiFi cuts out or the screen just goes Black for no reason at all. If I play my own music from my songs some bought from iTunes some from my own albums I have bought over many years (Back to the 70’s) the phone cuts out after about 10-15 minutes of play and wouldn’t you know it more than half the time it comes back on but in iTunes streaming stations? How does a bug kick you out of WiFi and/or give you a black screen for a few seconds then come back on in another music station from iTunes instead of back to your songs list? I could see if it kicked you into the “Home Screen” where your stations are but to just go into a station and start playing it? Makes no sense to me I am really starting to hate Apple and iTunes is even worse to deal with then this stupid phone!

  11. CP says:

Not sure if it is a bug or intentional but does anyone else have the issue that when they rub the fingerprint sensor twice to the left, the screen moves down? My vibrate notifications are also not correct (set to pulse once for email but pulses twice).

  12. M.J. says:

If my iPhone was a person I’d be punching it in the face right now!

  13. M.J. says:

Was a new iPhone user this past year always had Android, I liked it at the beginning it did seem to “Just Work” with the 8.1 update I can not keep WiFi steady it works for about 10-15 minutes at a time and them poof! Gone and my phone also resets or “Blacks” out from time to time for no reason at all. I love music so to keep turning the thing on and off every 10-15 min. is getting old not to mention the playlist starts over again or the song you had is no longer playing. I hope Apple gets this fixed very soon or I am going back to Android next time around never had this much trouble with any of the Android phones.

  14. Jar says:

My iPhone doesn’t show any downloading of the update after I press agree.
I have the right amount of storage it needs, battery power and connected to wifi. But nothing seems to happen

  15. Jode says:

My ipad is the same as you Jim. Stopped during the update itself and is now stuck in recovery..with the connect to itunes symbol. I dont want to wipe everything and restore. Yes I can get my apps back..but notes and artwork..saved information and pages, over 3 years of study GONE??!! Ive tried different firmware to get it out of recovery without having to connect to itunes BUT they arent working. It keeps coming up with “your device isnt in normal mode please reset and try again” Obviously its not in normal mode or I wouldnt need the firmware in the first place! Now what???

  16. JP says:

Slow response to type and touch, constant freezing, battery drain much faster. As ironic that freezed adding this comment.
It is too much stuff to not believe that it’s intentional for people upgrade to new devices or sever negligence, in any case reason enough to change to another brand. Sad, because Apple was a good interface, but seems that works only brand new. I’m seeing the pattern across multiple iOS upgrades on how the older the device is the bigger the damage it cause and the fact that Apple does not offer a reverse back option seems very suspicious that it is not intentional.
If anybody already quit Apple and found good alternative to iphone and iPad, please let me know. I’m on the search now. Tks

  17. Andy says:

Currently on 8.1 and my device says “no service” tried reset settings but still have the problem. What can i do?

  18. GregM says:

My iPad turned into a slug with 8.01, 8.02, and 8.1. I’d pay $50 to go back to version 7.

Battery drain, little orr nno connectivi…evev typing like this is delayed several seconds before screen displays the letters!

Cut and paste no longer works reliably… 5% maybe. Apple sucks!
This means We will NOT buy two new iPhone 6 crap phones… And will not “upgrade” our 4’s. Switching brands… iPad slugs to new Competitors,

Dropping AT&T as well, unless they muscle Apple to bring back Version 7 IOS.

  19. tracy says:

I downloadid the 8.1 on my iPad and it is frozen with the apple sign on the screen. Been stuck.like this for over 24 hours and no progress. In addition it will not reset or reboot. I am heartbroken. …

I am concerned now that I transfered iCloud over to my new iPhone 6 plus that in still unable to take pics from messenger?? Why is this can anyone help?? Have I to delete app n reinstall it??

  22. Anita Cordes says:

I upgraded my ipad mini 8.1 and I can not get it to sync with ITunes. Frustrating and a time waster!

    • Paul says:

Your iPad with iOS 8.1 won’t sync with iTunes? That is because you need to update to the latest version of iTunes, you can get it from the software update in iTunes or apple.com/itunes

That is the number one reason an iPad or iPhone won’t sync with iTunes, the iOS version is newer than iTunes version.

  23. Andy says:

i have an iPhone 5s and it downloaded fine but I can’t seem to find Apple pay

  24. Karina says:

“If it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. Should have looked here to see the plethora of problems with the 8.1 update before updating my iPad mini. My iPad is now currently stuck on the Apple logo and shuts off to a blue screen and then black and then back to the Apple logo. If anyone out there figures out a fix for it let me know. TIA!!!

    • paul says:

To fix the iPad or iPhone stuck on a blue screen and Apple logo, or a black screen, connect the iPhone/iPad to a computer and launch iTunes. Then choose the “Restore” option. It has to re-install iOS to fix the problem. Yes, it’s frustrating.

iOS 8.1, iOS 8.2 etc have a lot of bugs unfortunately, but they are usually resolvable with troubleshooting.

      • Jennifer says:

I had this same issue with my iPhone 5s, but I could not use the “Restore” option in iTunes. When my phone was caught in the boot loop, iTunes did not recognize it.

I took my phone to the Apple Store today. They said sometimes updating the firmware will get it out of the boot loop. It worked, my phone updated to iOS 8.1 and everything is working ok so far.

  25. Joey says:

I have ntelos and after installing the update my 4s now takes forever to switch back to 3G from 1x or extended in places where I used to get 3G. I was in the same town the day before and had 3G all over the place. Now it takes 10 to 15 minutes to finally pick up the 3G signal. I guess hindsight is 20/20 because if I had of known I would not have updated. I called ntelos and they gave me the reset network speal. Haven’t had any issues with Apple until the 8.01 and the 8.1. If it ain’t broke Apple pleaae don’t fix it.

  26. Bubbarikk says:

I have Yosemite on my MacBook Pro and iOS 8.1 on my iOS devices. I cannot Sync my iPad 3 or iPad mini to iTunes. When I attempt to Sync my iOS devices the sync stalls on one of two stages: Waiting for changes to be applied or Waiting for items to be copied. At this point, I am forced to cancel the sync with nothing synced to my iOS device. Make sure that you allow the sync to complete the cancel phase as it may dump about 20 GB of “Other” to your storage as a result in the glitch. Very Frustrated, looking for a fix. I despise when a so called fix introduces new issues… :(

  27. Marc Sirios says:

I have an Iphone 5s and after updating to IOS 8.1 and turning on ICloud Library Beta, it is taking forever to upload my photos and slowed my internet speed to a crawl at home

    • Gerp says:

So turn off iCloud Library Beta? It has to upload all your iPhone photos, of course its going to take a while and slow down your internet.

  28. Lyndle Ratliff says:

Since downloading 8.1 on my IPad it will Not play videos of any kind. Thanks Apple……for nothing!!

  31. Kim says:

I still cannot view my photos taken from my other iPhones on my new 5c, they are there but when I click on them it says that they are downloading and never gets any further ???

  32. Joel says:

I’m trying to update my software on my iPhone 6 and iPad mini and I go into settings>general>software update. I press agree for terms and conditions then I press agree again on the pop up that comes out after. Then nothing happens. It doesn’t start downloading or anything. This happens on both of my devices. Why is this?

    • Kurt says:

Same thing happens to me on my iPhone 6. All other phone features continue working but Settings is stuck on that Terms & Conditions screen until I dismiss the Settings app, at which point I’m still on 8.0.2. I tried twice and after reading all of the posts on this forum, I’m not going to upgrade until they fix the bugs they’ve introduced in 8.1… 8.0.2 seems to be working fine for me.

    • Kai says:

I have the same problem, try updating via itunes. It’s downloading the update right now, but it goes really slow. Not sure if it will update correctly.

  33. Ryan says:

    Iphone 5s.

Because my wireless modem router “wifi” function is dead, I have to use a LAN to my PC and share my internet connection to my Iphone thru the Laptop & Iphone wifi (ad-hoc connection).

    Previous IOS:
Initially, I had consistent issues establishing IP address, Subnet Mask, Router and DNS but started working

After new update to IOS 8.1
The problem above started again. Takes too long to establish IP address, Subnet mask, Router and DNS.
After wifi connection is established with the laptop, when I start using an app on the phone, it disconnects and tries to reconnect again (esp. Facebook or Youtube).

Never had a problem with the Iphone 4s.

    Very annoying.

Purchased an iPad air today from apple, updated to 8.1 and restored my previous data – 3 hour old ipad bricked. I call B.S on apple. Total rubbish in recent yrs.

    • Mark says:

The same thing happened to me after restoring my iPad Air 2 from iTunes with my data from my old iPad 2nd gen. Screen went black with no response from any buttons.

Try holding the home button and the power button simultaneously for up to 15 seconds till you see the Apple logo. Worked for me.

  35. Mohamed says:

Plz help me to find a solution!
After I update my iphone5 with ios8.1, facing problem with music player.
While playing any songs, every 1 minutes or more it breaks and start again with low quality music. After I close the music player app and start again, it come back to good quality.
I tried changing song, I tried playing streaming song, I tried play a video in vlc ios video player … Still same problem.
What is the solution, I am music mad! I hate iphone now with this creepy update

  36. Parquetk says:

With this update I’ve noticed that when I’m on a phone call and have LTE, try to use a GPS program (waze, Google, navigon) they can’t connect to their networks and the connection goes down to 4G. Once I get off the phone call it goes right back up to LTE.

And I’m sitting in the same spot.

Now if I get on GPSband then make a phone call, the GPS works and I can make the phone call, but the connection still drops from LTE to 4G.

This was not something that happened before this update.

  37. Brenda Acheson says:

I downloaded iOS 8.1 and it deleted all my password notes….Thanks a lot!
No more downloads for me.One would think these downloads would come with INSTRUCTIONS to avoid things like this happening.

  38. Tracy says:

Cannot send pictures through messenger. App closes down. Ive rebooted and reinstalled app. Only appears to be a problem since software update.

So ever since iv updated my iPhone 5s to ios8.* iv been having issues with the phone crashing every time I open fb and a few other apps. So power button does not work, the home button does not either, it only works when I jam on both at the same time, and when I try and re open it it still freezes… I am only run one app at a time and if I have more than 3 running at once forget it, half the stuff does not work… I have done a factory reset and all the things, not working please help…

  42. Kevin farmer says:

Brilliant work again Apple NOT!! Upgraded 5s to iOS 8.1 and now just get Apple logo then blue screen!! Why release rubbish that doesn’t work? I’ll be expecting my phone to be replaced and some form of compensation for everything I’ve lost!! Useless!!

  43. Jim says:

IPAD2 frozen at apple logo screen once IOS 8.1 installed…can someone help to recover?

  44. Peter says:

iOS 8 worked but was a massive drain on the battery, so I updated to 8.1 (over iTunes) hoping it’d solve the battery issue. But now my iPhone 4s is permanently stuck in “Recovery Mode.” Can’t do anything because Restore option on iTunes ends with error code 1. To sum up, phone boots to recovery mode and iTunes can’t restore it. I hold Apple 100% liable for damaging my phone.

  45. Angeline says:

Jz received my iPhone 6 plus & upgraded to ios8.1.
After I set up my new phone & restore my icloud backup from my old iPhone 4S, I found that the photo album cannot be used, photo taken by the camera cannot be saved (anyway the thumbnail of the photo jz taken was showed on the bottom left corner).
When I go into my photo album, there are no photo at all.
I tried to reset & delete everything for 5-6 times, the problem still there.
Anyone can help on this problem please?

  46. Price says:

Bluetooth is still not working with my 2014 Touareg after 8.1 upgrade.. I can manually dial and receive calls but the vehicle does not recognize my contact directory. FYI, I am a iPhone 5 user and all worked beautifully before 8.0 upgrade.

  47. Bob H says:

I started the installation through iTunes, but on both an iPhone 5 (A1428-GSM) and iPad Mini Retina iTunes wanted to install 8.0.2. Is it necessary to install the older version first?

I’m currently downloading the IPSW files. Can I go directly from 7.x.x to 8.1 by installing the IPSW file for 8.1?

  48. Amm says:

I updated my iPad2 iOS from 7 to 8 and I could not complete the set up because the terms and conditions “Agree” button was not responding. I tried all the possible means (reset, restart, reinstall, down grade to iOS 7, and even take it to an Apple store) but nothing worked. I do not have warranty and Apple asked $300 to replace my iPad with the same version (iPad 2). Last week I upgraded to iOS 8.1 and the iPad is still not working after I press on “Agree”. Is anyone having the same problem? Is there any way to fix it?

  49. sarah says:

Its not letting me install it!! I go to software update and go to download and install then hit agree and it asks to agree again then nothing happens at all! I’ve tried restarting my phone and everything please help

  50. Lexy says:

I go to update and it restarts and tells me to connect to iTunes, ok that fine… after not being able to use my phone all day because it was stuck on the “connect to iTunes screen” I finally get home and connect it to iTunes, click on update & it says it would take about an hour to update. Wake up to find it can’t update for whatever reason, try to update it again, and it still won’t work. Now i’m currently having to “restore” my phone, just so it will turn on. I JUST transferred over from an android so I did not know I should of backup my files before attempting to update, so I’m thinking I’m going to lose all my photos etc BUT I go ahead and click on recover because at this point I haven’t been able to turn on/use my phone for over 7 hours aka half the day. iTunes tells me it can’t find my device so basically MY IPHONE 6 PLUS STILL WONT TURN ON. I need help. :( – iphone 6 plus

  51. Chelsie says:

I have had my iPhone 5s for about a year now and I’ve never had a problem with it until now. I’ve always updated it when there was an update, but when I tried to update it to the iOS 8.1 it took me to the connect to iTunes store. I still haven’t been able to fix it, any suggestions?

  52. Mads says:

I have an iphone 5s that i got only about two months ago, if that, and when i updated (iOS 8.1)
it started updating but now it show the apple symbol with a black background for about 25 seconds, then flashes a blue screen, then turns off completely, and then goes right back to the apple symbol with a black background.

I have tried plugging it into the charger, doing a hard restart, and still it keeps doing the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated): i don’t normally complain but i don’t know what to do.

I have an iPhone 5, an iPad and a retina MacBook Pro. I updated my iPhone and iPad to 8.1 and am completely thrilled with the update! The operating system is no longer sluggish and everything is working properly! Kudos to Apple! I’m happy!

  60. Marius says:

Ios 8.1 is not really good for WIFI becasue it don’t working at my photo stream doe automatic uploads on icloud devices????

  61. Claire D says:

My wifi is still constantly disconnecting even after resetting network settings. It seems to get mostly better if the device is plugged in, but even then it’s not 100%. Plus, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a mobile device. This is on an iPad air.

  62. Kyle says:

Bluetooth still does not work. I’ve tried rebooting, resetting network settings, resetting all settings, even restored my iPhone.

This is so frustrating. Apple products are supposed to be simple devices that just work without the troubleshooting of the power-user firmwares on other phones. But something as simple as bluetooth connectivity? I too am ready to switch phones. Most of my friends and co-workers have already ditched Apple for other phones simply because they just work.

  63. Pam says:

They better hurry up and fix the Bluetooth problem!! I can’t believe this update is so poor. Might have to return my iPhone 6!

  64. moka says:

my cam still dark and never work even i made the update all the same anyone help :(

  65. leroy says:

Ever since upgrading to IOS 8, including IOS 8.01, 8.02 and 8.1 I had the wellknown Wifi issue.
wifi speeds dropping from 120mbps to about 2mbps @ 5ghz in within a minute after connecting to the wifinetwork. often i couldn’t even surf at all. but the wifi signal was always strong.
With every update i was hoping for a solution from Apple but it never came.

Tried everything that can be found on the internet.
    Resetting the network settings.
Disabling “wifi networking” under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services.
    Reinstalling my Ipad from scratch
Used different routers and different setups.
Automatic ip’s and fixed ip’s and different dns servers just to be sure.
Nothing worked. The only workaround is switching to a 2.4Ghz network.

So i was doing some tests and found THE solution, but i don’t like it all.
One of the biggest changes in IOS 8 is the ability to use airplay without a network. by using a wifi connection in combination with bluetooth.
    And here lies the problem.
I disconnected al my Airplaydevices from my network. Denon AV-amplifier AVR2113, Pioneer wireless speaker XW SMA3 and an airport express.
Et voila… My Ipad is back to normal. fast… no very fast internet connection and stable as hell. Just like iOS 7 was.
Working with it for a couple of hours now without any trouble at all.
But do i connect one Airplay device to the network the wifi is not stable anymore and extremely slow again on my ipad air.
My Macbook running mac os x mavericks doesn’t have these issues, neither does my iphone 5S. and they are also on the same 5ghz network.

So I can create and recreate the issue and create a work around… Apple please come with a solution that makes me able to use airplay an ipad (on ios8) on a 5ghz network! like in iOS 7!!!!

  66. Emma says:

I cannot even use the update on my phone. I click instal then it asks me to agree or disagree. I click agree the a confirmation message appears, I also agree that, then nothing. This is really annoying. I have wifi and a fully charged battery, I have even tried on different wifi. Please help

    • Mark says:

I am having the same problem with my wife’s iPhone 4s. Wish I could help but I don’t know what to do. Just letting you know you are not the only one.

Given all the issues, I think I will just leave her phone at iOS 7.

  67. Bill says:

Upgraded onto iphone 5 and everything looks and acts like it did before the upgrade. But I’m glad that camera roll is back again… Thanks Apple for listening to the masses in that one…

  68. Paul says:

Poor show Apple. Bluetooth still doesn’t work. Even on reset can’t get it to even link my ipad 3rd gen with iphone 6. With logitech keyboard or my car. Rediculous

  69. Peter says:

After ios 8.1 update battery draining fast, wifi very slow as it was before safari hangs, I thought this update was suppose to fix connection issues(wifi) Apple very disappointing, it’s time to look at other smart phones

  70. Ray says:

Hey guys how’s the update on the iPhone 4s is it better or worse? Should I upgrade or not im also having problems on my iPod 5g with wifi issues and countless other issues

  71. Michelle says:

Since I updated, my screen is flickering with grey horizontal lines all across the screen :( I’ve tried restarting and resetting but neither has worked.

  72. Barkley says:

After I downloaded the update and updated my phone, I wanted to sync different music, but it says I’m 7gb over the limit on iTunes even though I’m not. It now says I have a mountain of other data. When I go into the storage settings on my phone, it says I have 1 gb of memory still available to use even though it says I am 6 gb over my limit on iTunes. I applied my last backup to check if the problem would still persist and I had to update to access my phone again. I want music back on my phone. Anyone know what’s up?

  73. Dave says:

Remember when we used to love Apple because it works so well? I guess android ain’t such a bad idea after all.

  74. Peter says:

MBPro13″ on Yosemite, iPad Air, and iPhone5 both on 8.1 – all works just perfectly… No BT problems, wi-fi connetcs everywhere (even I had before some troubles), car works with iP better (music, voice, navigation…). Little problem with battery draining on iPhone, but it’s almost everywhere on charger so I don’t care :)))

  75. Remco says:

One big battery drain. Since ios 8 it is very bad… Also 8.1 still drains the battery and heats up the phone. Charging 3 times a day now and still won’t make it to the night. Awful

  76. Dave says:

bluetooth still not connecting properly to either vehicle I own

  77. lori says:

Just update 8.1 on my 5s now my phone does not work..Any suggestions?

  78. jklo16 says:

This software “upgrade” is complete crap. Did these idiots tryout the program before releasing it. Trying to “join” wi-fi at work, the same wi-fi we’ve had for a few years.
Tried “forgetting” network and re-adding. Says incorrect password for the 2.4G. It’s the same damn password for the 5G and 5G will connect after about 2 minutes. performance is beyond horrible.

  79. Bina says:

iPad here, both wi-fi AND Bluetooth are kaputt. Even on 8.1, which I was hoping would fix all. Battery drainage also seems way too fast. Give us iOS 7 back!

    • Gini says:

I agree! since upgrading to 8.0.1 (which I thought would have fixed previous publicized issues) have lost the sent mail swoosh, don’t get any alert sounds when receiving new emails anymore, have lost the clicking sound of keyboard, yet all settings for sounds and alerts are toggled on and will sound when tested in Settings. Screen rotation is wonky and websites slower to load, screen freezes up as well. Any help?

I don’t know how to fix this and hesitant to upgrade w/o knowing if this is fixed in 8.1. I was very happy w/ iOS 7.2, or whatever version shipped w/iPad 4 back in May 2014.

  80. eltiguere says:

Can not sign in imessages anymore :(

  81. avikantz says:

    Guys, how’s 8.1 on iPhone 4s? Should I update?

  82. Harvey says:

All those complaints and issues and here iam with software running smooth as hell no issues with bluetooth, wifi or any other so far. It just makes me feel like the chosen one. Lol 😄

  83. Peter Sonnenthal says:

Bluetooth did not recognize any hands free set before, with upgrade does recognize; however iPhone 6 still does not connect….Bluetooth problem NOT solved – get on it Apple Team!

  84. Jeremy says:

I’ve lost gps on Tomtom app seems ok on other apps iPhone 5c

  85. Jim says:

Upgraded fine now lost data on Health and some health data tables are gone. No longer tracks glucose levels.

  86. Daniel Ebeck says:

iPad 3rd Gen. Updated OK, no problems seen so far.

  87. ibra you says:

    Network selection 2G , 3G , 4G is not working in my iPhone 6

  88. Carl says:

Installed on both my iPhone 6 and iPad mini 2. Works like a charm. Loving the sms feature from my iPad. Dunno if thats continuity or handoff but it just works whatever it’s called ! Classic Apple.
    Well done guys!

  89. I’m glad to see that following this update I can once again sync my iPad and iMac over Wi-Fi.

  90. Brian Johnson says:

User of Apple products since the Mackintosh 128K and this is the first t me I have had a poor response to a problem that many Bluetooth car connection users seem to be having. My Lexus dealer has had many complaints about non – connectivity. Samsung Trolls notwithstanding Apple have a problem and are not dealing with it.
Tried the reset route but no solution. My iPad on IOS 8.1 has no problem at all……

  91. MikeL says:

Most of the “problems” reported are Samsung trolls

  92. Kevin says:

Battery life is really bad on my Iphone 6 now that I installed iOS 8.1. Apple, can you just stop breaking stuff please?

  93. Naldo says:

I Can not understand how so many people seem to have problems with the update. I checked for the update, I followed the instructions then walked away later I noticed the ipad restarting then it was done. And it works what are you people doing? Surely it’s not that hard. Maybe it’s just some trolls trashing the brand. I Take all this complaining with a grain of salt. I only had 2 problems with Ios8.0 no big deal. I waited then they were fixed.

    • Pam says:

We are not all idiots. It’s not the update that’s the problem. It’s xo,e of the features in the update. My bluetooth will not connect to any of my other bluetooth devices, even my iPad. Very frustrated !!!

    • Ian says:

Naldo your an irritating ….. insert suitable word here …..

Just because it worked for you is no need to insult all the legitimate users who rightly complain when it doesn’t work for them.

I have owned or operated as an IT Manager dozens of Apple I devices from the iphone 3GS though all models of Ipad etc.

And yes despite doing everything right I am researching my currently turkeyed ipad 2.

Yes my work Ipad air updated faultlessly but that in no way invalidates the experience of dozens of people who are having problems and the fact that your experience was good means your lack of understanding about what people are complaining abaout really just indicates a lack of knowledge of the subject, lack of empathy and probably a few other lacks too.

      Ian.
      IT manager.

  94. sduck says:

Installed on my iphone 5 and ipad 2. No problems. Everything works. Bluetooth worked before, and still works fine. Battery seems to be lasting as long as before. Boring.

  95. Karen Rosauro Tobias says:

Still i can’t update my software with ios 8.1 in my iphone 5c it says “an error occured in downloading ios 8.1” so how is it what i’m goin to do now? And no connectivity in my cellular data though it was already turned ON and cant no longer be turn off thats why it drained my battery

  96. Rony says:

I have just updated my iphone 5s to the latest ios 8.1 update. I have noticed Apple did nothing about the battery drain. My iphone 5s is still draining battery at 6% every Hour, that is even in standby and airplane mode – so bad

  97. Masi says:

WiFi problem that I had earlier with my iPhone 6 still exists, keeps throwing me out from my home wifi all the time. Tried to reset network but didn’t help….
Goddamnit apple you really disappoint me, hopefully all the apple lovers don’t just close their eyes this time and pretend that the problems don’t exist like they usually do whit apple problems

  98. Torey says:

OK this makes me angry my iPhone 6 was rebooting to install the update and now its stuck on recovery mode and I got to wait for the update to download on my iTunes and then restore it im majorly pissed right now and want to just yell at someone lol

  99. James says:

Was really excited about ApplePay but then I tried scanning all three of my cards and it said the issuer of all three were not supported.

    Well, so much for that.

  100. Ced says:

Lost photos enabling iCloud picture library :(

    • WTF says:

Wow, pretty much exactly why I don’t want to try out some crappy beta feature from a beta OS (well, public beta, iOS 8.1 Public Beta 1 might as well be called). Who can possibly afford to lose their data? You spend $850 on an iPhone 6 Plus and the software is total junk.

  101. LB says:

The update just broke my phone. It attempted to install about 3 different times, all the while saying “No Service” next to my wifi connection symbol. I turn it on and it says “connect to iTunes”. This is crap! I can’t use my phone AT ALL now. I’m switching to Samsung. I’m so far beyond aggravated.

    • Marquita says:

I am having the same issue and do not currently have a laptop or cup available with iTunes to connect with. I can’t use my phone at all.

    • Marcus says:

Having the exact sameproblem with my 4s. “No service” and after reboot it says connect to iTunes. Recovery through iTunes also fails :(

    • Stephanie says:

Mine also said no service next to wifi connection symbol and when I turned off and on it said “connect to iTunes” I didn’t have time to connect as I had to get to work. Has anyone been successful in connecting to iTunes to get phone back up & running? Now I’m stuck without a phone all day and probably lost everything that is not backed into the cloud!!

    • JOhn says:

Same thing happened to me too!!!!! It took me 4 tries on my ipad that i NEED for school. Finally after 2hours it worked

  102. Irene says:

Bluetooth still a problem. Phone needs to be rebooted after using Bluetooth

  103. VoiceofReason says:

    Yea so many complaints

    All 22 of them.

Obviously these ” issues” are not reality for millions of people.

  104. Matthew M says:

Updated to iOS 8.1and my iPhone 6 is still having Bluetooth issues with my car. It still refuses to connect automatically. Tested several iOS 7.x devices and they all worked fine.

  105. vdiv says:

“Adds an option to select between 2G, 3G or LTE networks for cellular data”

    Huh?! How? On which model?

  106. Rockert says:

what you trashers, it should be called OS X NOT WORKING

    • reke says:

Well this is iOS 8.1 and not OS X, there is a difference though they are based upon the same kernel core. iOS is for mobile like iPhone and iPad, OS X is for Macs like the desktop iMac or portable MacBook Air. OS X has a trash can, iOS does not. hope that Clears it up ROCKERT!

  107. Bill says:

WTF!!! Any body else notice there battery being drained faster then normal!!! I’m losing 1% every 2 minutes like a slow clock count down!! This suks

    • MaxPayne79 says:

i had this on the iOS 8.1 beta 2 and had to quickly downgrade back to beta 1. I hoped they fixed this issues in the official but evidently not. I recommend you go back to 8.0.

    • kat says:

Battery dies in 12 hours, with almost no use. Background App refresh is off, only 3 apps are in Notifications, Auto Brightness is on, Cellular is Off when on Wifi….and still!
I’m with iPhone4s and really hoped that 8.1 will resolve all problems….didn’t happen.
I’m a big Apple fan, but seriously thinking moving to HTC or Sony….
      It’s a pity!!!!

  108. Axo says:

It just works no more …
    Better old working iOS !!

  109. gino says:

I don’t trust Apple any more…. “it just works” is NOT a today slogan

  110. Ben says:

Still no Bluetooth pairing even after a reset all settings.

  111. People Police says:

    So many complaints!

Once updated, I simply went straight to Settings-General-Reset and reset all the options in there…YES, including Erase iPhone.

Those resets should aid almost all of your complaints.

  112. Adam says:

    RE: iOS 8.1, OS X Yosemite & Bluetooth Pairing…

    FIXED:
Wouldn’t work after 8.1 update and rebooting both Mac & iPhone 6. I did the General > Reset > Network Settins and it immediately paired upon iPhone reboot. Thank you.

  113. John says:

I’m seeing an issue with ios8 where pressing the home button doesn’t go to the home screen but acts as if I pressed the button twice, pulling up the list of apps running. I haven’t heard this to be a common complaint. Is it a common problem?

    • Soeren says:

My home button doesn’t work at all on iphone 5..

    • renea says:

when i press my home button on my 6 my screen slides down ( half way) …. and stays like that untill i hit my home button a few more times…

    • Nate says:

I’m having the exact same issue with my home button as John. It’s been driving me crazy. I hope this update fixes the problem. Will know in a minute or so.

    • Nate says:

My update just finished and from what I can tell so far my home button is FIXED. Thank you Apple. I just hope I didn’t jinx myself!

    • Paul says:

I sure hope it does… I have the accessibility feature to inverse the colors when I triple click the home button so whenever I hit the home button it may do what it’s supposed to, it may bring up all the apps, or it might invert the colors…. just with one click. Super annoying.

  114. Darren says:

Bluetooth still not working across iOS devices. Appalling lack of QC from Apple! They should apologise for their poor performance over last few weeks and give us all some compensation like App Store credit or something.

    • John R says:

8.1 has restored buletooth syncing between my iMac and iPad Air. Do not need a cable to sync any longer here.

27″ iMac (late 2009), Mavericks 10.9.5/iTunes12, iPad Air iOS 8.1.

  115. Kevin says:

Tried to add my Chase Bank Visa card to Apple Pay, said it wasn’t supported. OK then.

Is it a feature if it’s only supported by one credit card?

  116. john says:

with the new 8.1 i was about to bypass icloud lock. i will be releasing a video on youtube in about 45 minutes.

tested on iphone 6 plus and 5s

  117. Kevin says:

Install went well, but Health app no longer tracks data or movement. RAM usage also seems to have gone up, even more cache loss and dumping than before (good grief). Time will tell if the crashes get any better and if the random iOS 8 reboots on iPhone still happen or if those are resolved.

Good to see Camera Roll back, that was an incredibly boneheaded removal by some clueless person at Apple.

Now, maybe OS X Yosemite can get OS X 10.10.1 to make it usable too? Tired of beta testing Apple software, it has become hard to rely on.

  118. John G says:

the movie time app doesn’t work anymore!

  119. Joe says:

Just Downloaded and can’t wait to use HandOff and InstentHotSpot

    • Alex says:

Health app still does not update half the time, so steps and stuff don’t seem to be counted. This bug has been around a while, but no fix yet with iOS 8.1

  120. Brian Johnson says:

Just upgraded – still no Bluetooth connections!!!!!! Really poor effort Apple.

    • Alex K. says:

Try to reset your networking settings: Settings->General->Reset->Reset Networking Settings

      • Dori W. says:

Reset network settings. Bluetooth still does not work. Then reset all settings and still doesn’t work.

        • Alex K. says:

What are you trying to connect to (and from – what device are you using)? I had to re-pair my phone to my car Bluetooth. May be you need to do it also. I also heard that some BT drivers has to be updated on BMW, Cadilacs.

P.S. All my connectivity issues are solved (for now).

    • Karen C. says:

Yup! Same problem here. Bluetooth not working in car. I did a full restore, deleted and re-paired my device, reset network settings, and nothing has worked. I’m so bummed because I spend a lot of time in the car.
