iPadOS 14 Release Set for Fall – Features & Screenshots
Apple has announced iPadOS 14 for iPad, the next generation operating system for iPad Pro, iPad, iPad mini, and iPad Air.
iPadOS 14 includes many new iPad specific features, including Scribble handwriting recognition and handwriting-to-text conversion, redesigned Files app and Photos apps, a newly refreshed Search feature reminiscent of Spotlight on Mac, as well as all of the features from iOS 14 for iPhone and iPod touch including new privacy features, freshly minimized FaceTime controls, instant language translation, some refreshed visual elements, and much more.
Let’s review some of the great new features coming to iPad with iPadOS 14:
Scribble Handwriting-to-Text for Apple Pencil
Perhaps some of the more interesting iPadOS 14 features are for Apple Pencil, called Scribble. You can handwrite in Notes, then select the handwritten notes and paste them elsewhere with instant handwriting-to-text conversion.
You can also handwrite in search and other text entry boxes and Scribble will instantly convert that to text as well. You can even reply to messages and emails by handwriting with Apple Pencil, and Scribble will convert that instantly to text or sending.
Scribble effectively allows you to use the iPad with Apple Pencil without needing to use the onscreen keyboard or an external keyboard.
Redesigned Files App
The newly redesigned Files app has a modern visual overhaul that makes it look quite a bit more like Finder in MacOS 11 Big Sur. Aside from the appearance changes, there’s also a new powerful sidebar, and more and improved file management features.
Redesigned Spotlight Search
The new Search feature for iPad should be instantly familiar to anyone coming from a Mac, because it looks and behaves a lot like Spotlight on Mac.
You can use search to find anything on the device, including files, photos, notes, contacts, and much more.
Redesigned Home Screen Widgets
Home Screen Widgets on iPad get a visual redesign that more closely matches the design language on iOS 14 for iPhone and macOS Big Sur 11.
All iOS 14 Features Too
iPadOS 14 also includes all the best iOS 14 features for iPhone as well, so you’ll have all the new changes to Messages app, Memoji, Emoji, Notes, Photos, and much more on iPad as well.
iPadOS 14 Release Date: Fall 2020
Apple has said that iPadOS 14 will be released in fall of 2020.
This likely coincides with the release of iOS 14 and MacOS 11 Big Sur, which are also set for a fall release schedule.
iPadOS 14 is currently in beta, with developer betas being available right away and a public beta coming in July.
Wow! Finally! Handwriting recognition in iOS.
That is revolutionary…………

……..no, wait………my almost-20-year-old Apple Newton did that.
I’m guessing that–since the iPad is the equivalent of a Cray2 to the original Newton–it’s hopefully faster.
Several banking websites have small fixed sized text that I cannot read w/o a magnifying glass. Unless the “aA” option is available I am stuck. Can dynamic text be provided even if the app doesn’t support it? Do your magic please.
I hope the the renewed Photos app will allow to MOVE a picture from Library to Albums.
In case that a picture is ADDED to some Album, please mark this picture in Library with an symbol (A).
