How to Change Siri’s Volume on HomePod
Are you using the HomePod or HomePod Mini and wondering how to change Siri’s volume? You may have used the volume controls on the HomePod only to realize that it doesn’t affect Siri’s volume at all. Not to worry, we’ll show you how you can change Siri’s speaker volume on HomePod.
Smart speakers are a relatively new breed of devices and a lot of newcomers may have trouble making use of them properly. You might think that changing the volume of a device might be a silly topic, but some users get confused when pressing the volume buttons on your HomePod or HomePod Mini adjusts the media volume, but not Siri’s volume. If you’re wondering how to figure this out, we’re here to help.
How to Change Siri Volume on HomePod & HomePod mini
There are two ways to adjust the volume of Siri on your HomePod. You can either use voice commands or use the volume buttons at a specific time. Here’s what you need to do:
- Pressing the volume buttons located at the top of the HomePod would normally adjust the media volume, but if you press these buttons when Siri is actively speaking, it adjusts Siri’s volume instead. It’s that simple.
- Alternatively, you can ask Siri to raise her voice. You can start off with the voice command “Hey Siri, increase your volume to 100%.” or say “Hey Siri, speak at 50%.”
- If you’re trying to increase the volume to the maximum limit, Siri would ask for your confirmation by responding “Speak at 100%. Are you sure?”. At this point, you simply need to say “Yes”.
There you go. Now, you know how to tweak Siri’s volume on your HomePod.
By default, both the HomePod and HomePod Mini are designed to automatically adjust the volume level depending on the ambient noise level in the room.
You can check Siri’s current speaking volume by simply asking “Hey Siri, what’s your speaking volume?”. You’ll get a response similar to “I’m currently at 64%”.
It’s worth noting that as per multiple reports from HomePod users, Siri’s volume doesn’t consistently stay at the level you set using the voice command or using the volume buttons. This happens anywhere from minutes to hours after using the command. This could be a bug or it could be that it’s simply adjusting to ambient sounds, but regardless there’s no fix just yet, but presumably this is something Apple will address in a future software update. So if you’re wondering why Siri on HomePod volume is changing on it’s own. well, that could be why.

Well, I’m on the other end of the spectrum. I can never hear what Siri is saying, because she speaks in a near whisper, which cannot even be heard over the running water while I’m washing dishes. It’s totally retarded that you can’t just set the speaking volume and leave it there, or at least set the speaking volume RELATIVE to the ambient room tone. ie, so she would be 30 dB OVER the volume of the running water.
Agree with Molly. Siri’s speaking volume needs to be a LOT lower. I DID dump Alexa and HATE that Siri will not respond more quietly or not at all would be even better.
Any idea if this is “programmable” in the Shortcuts app? I’d like to dump some of the Alexa Dots in my home, but the HomePod’s lack of a comparable “Whisper Mode” has me hesitant to speak to Siri in the wee hours of the morning.
There is still too much of a disparity between the media volume that I set up to play as I fall asleep (7%) vs Siri’s speaking voice volume.
