ios devices sold

Yes, you read that right, 120,000,000 iOS devices have been sold to date. This is the figure that Apple publicly released at their recent music event, and here’s the specific device breakdown of the sales:

  • iPhones sold: 67.6 million – 56% of iOS devices sold
  • iPads sold: 7.2 million – 6% of iOS devices sold
  • iPod touch sold: 45.2 million – 38% of iOS devices sold

The iPod touch is capturing nearly half of the iOS device market, this is absolutely amazing and it’s fair to say that it’s been a huge hit even before the release of the new iPod touch with FaceTime video calling, upgraded hardware, and the beautiful retina display. The success of the iPad is pretty amazing too, representing a sizable portion of iOS sales even though it’s only been available for a few months now. And of course there’s the iPhone, the success of which doesn’t really surprise me whatsoever, it’s the best mobile device available and just happens to be a great cell phone as well.

These figures are based on Apple’s sales numbers and some data by Fortune, which is also where the above piechart is from.

I don’t know that I agree with icebreaker. While the adjectives are plentiful, they are also accurate.

Samuel is just as bad as the poster ;) He could have just copy pasted the keynote as far as I’m concerned. I like Apple products, as a matter of fact I am typing this on my MacBook but it is still just a laptop. A rather good one but still just a laptop and not some miracle machine that spits out chocolate cookies when you press the eject button.

@icebreaker, I think you are reading too much into the adjectives. Nobody expects miracle machines. Besides, its a blog – the author is entitled to his/her opinion. I am just alert enough to not be swayed by opinions.

I would think that the ipod touch sales correlate with the fact that they are bundled with mac purchases for a good part of the year.

@dubbleenerd – even if every single Mac sold came with an iPod Touch automatically, that would not account for that many iPod Touches. Only education purchases receive an iPod Touch and only for a couple of months of the year. Overall, it’s probably a very small percentage of the total number sold.
