iPhone 4 + Verizon
Oh the rumor that never dies: iPhone is coming to Verizon. This has been speculated for years, but now the partnership of Apple and Verizon seems nearly certain, at least according to a report by Bloomberg. Citing two anonymous sources, Bloomberg claims that iPhone 4 will be available on the Verizon network starting in January of 2011.
If iPhone 4 became available on Verizon, it could produce a significant sales boost for Apple. AppleInsider cites an analyst saying that just having iPhone available on Verizon could sell an additional 12 million iPhones a year, which certainly wouldn’t help the current iPhone 4 availability difficulties, but it would be a very impressive feat considered Apple sold 11 million iPhone’s last year on AT&T alone. Having the iPhone on Verizon would also alleviate some of the network congestion that AT&T is dealing with as a result of the iPhone’s popularity.
I’m going to continue to treat this as a rumor because it’s been talked about so many times in the past, but supposedly this time it’s true… we’ll see come January!

@languafranca… That is one possibility that Verizon may have seeded this rumor to stifle the sales for AT&T. But I don’t think that is it. I say that because these rumors could seriously hurt the new Droid 2 and Droid X phones which will appear soon from Motorola on the Verizon network. People may hold out for a Verizon iPhone in January instead of purchasing/upgrading to the new Droids coming out next month.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but I think this kind of news is put out to derail the current iPhone 4 sales. It’s in Verizon’s interest to get people to not sign onto new contracts with AT&T so naturally they’re going to leak news like this, that way they can stifle the sales and scoop them up come release on their network in January. This of course assumes it is even going to happen, we’ve been hearing this rumor for 2 years now, as soon as the iPhone was released reports said it would be on Sprint or Verizon or T-Mobile.
People complain about AT&T network but I haven’t had any worse problems with AT&T than I have on other networks. I imagine these network issues are very dependent on location and overload, big cities seem to have it worse off than smaller cities. Here in Boise I have no complaints, though when I have visited Seattle I did start experiencing dropped calls.
lol boise? the last time boise had any congestion issues was when 2 potato trucks tried to merge on a road. of course you aren’t gonna have a problem
