iOS 5 Download via OTA Update

iOS 5.0.1 has been released to the public, the update addresses the battery problems that were associated with iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S, but also brings multitasking gestures to the iPad 1 and resolves several other bugs and issues. The update comes as build 9A405 and is highly recommended for all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users running the newest iOS.

Download and Update to iOS 5.0.1

There are several ways to get iOS 5.0.1:

  • OTA Preferred method: download through Over-the-Air update by tapping on “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update” and then tapping on “Download and Install”
  • Download from iTunes: launch iTunes and you will get an update notification

If you’d rather download and install the firmware yourself and you know how to use IPSW files, use the links below.

        • Doctor Freeman says:

Code division multiple access (CDMA) is a wireless radio technology which only works in a specific region. For instance, if you have a US CDMA phone, taking it to a foreign country will result in it not working until you bring it back to the US.

Perfect update direct via Iphone and WIFI !!
Earlier update to iOS 5 on my 3GS drained the battery to nothing in less than 2 hours, making the device very hot !
After the update to iOS 5.0.1 I seem to have got a brand new Iphone: Battery capasity much better than the original, seem likely to have been 100% better ! ?

what’s the difference between iPhone 4 GSM and iPhone 4 CDMA?? My iPhone’s from verizon

    • Doctor Freeman says:

GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications, typically seen on carriers such as ATT) will work worldwide.

CDMA (Code division multiple access, seen on various carriers including Verizon) will only work within a specific region. For instance, a US CDMA iPhone will only work in the US, and one bought in Japan will only work in Japan, etc.

  25. Giles says:

I too 3 days to restore my 3GS after the iOS5 update, had to manually install it to my wifes 4, now the OTA 5.01 tried to install and crashed everything, made me plug into iTunes and restore and update, which has failed yet again, and yes I have rebooted, turned off firewalls and security, not that I like that, still nothing works, installing manually now, if this doesnt work out comes the Nokia again, and iPhone goes in the bin!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Brandon says:

Mine did it on it’s own. A notification popped up on my iPhone 4s. It took literally 3 seconds.

  33. Gocsan says:

My 4S never had any battery issues in the first place. The 55mb update seems to have caused my time zone location service to stay on! I don’t think this is normal and probably will end up draining my battery rather than improving it. Will try to update it again with the full firmware download and see how it goes.

Worked fast and perfectly on my ATT 4. Now to see how long the battery lasts. I turned everything on and now I’m waiting . . . . . . . .

  39. Chris says:

I have a white Verizon iPhone 4. I remember Apple said that the OTA updates would be done so that they don’t require much data so people with data caps wouldn’t have to worry abou getting a 700MB file (as is the size of the ISPWs).

If so, then why does my iPhone say I HAVE TO CONNECT TO A DAMN WIFI NETWORK TO DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE. MY DATA PLAN IS UNLIMITED (got it before they introduced caps)

    Stupid Apple. =/

    • Matt says:

The OTA wi-fi limitation is likely imposed by carriers and not by Apple, kind of like the whole Facetime over 3G thing

      • Chris says:

I remember that Cydia had a paid app that removed the 20MB 3G restriction, so I always figured it was Apple. But if you guys can all download it, is it possible that it’s 20MB for Verizon but say, 50 for AT&T? I don’t know, but I have an unlimited data plan, White iPhone 4 (16GB), Verizon Wireless, and here is a pic of what I’m getting:

I could not agree with you more: Stupid Apple. I cannot believe my daughter wastes her money on Apple crap. These products are worth-less than half of the non apple devices that cost half as much. That means they’re 4 times more expensive than they’re worth. And since they frequently don’t work, they’re actually worthless.

      Android forever…

      • JanS says:

I agree, one time Apple, newer more. This is why:
Note: You cannot transfer photos that you synced to your iOS device from another computer. You can only transfer photos or videos that you took or saved on the iOS device.

        Retarded Apple

yes you can…. download a program called IFUNBOX…. u can strip any I-device of all media and copy it onto other I-devices…. it will in effect mean you can have 20 copies of the same files on 20 different devices…. enjoy
