iPhone Duo Announced by Apple, with 7.6″ Foldable Display
Apple has revealed the all-new iPhone Duo as part of the iPhone 18 lineup, featuring a dramatic new design with a foldable screen. When closed, the device looks much like a standard iPhone, but that iPhone transforms into an iPad mini-like device when opened, and is sure to be a popular mobile form factor moving forward. The iPhone Duo is a premium device and priced accordingly.
Separately, Apple also released the iPhone 18 Pro, along with new AirPods Pro, and new Apple Watch models.
iPhone Duo Features
The highlight feature is obviously the 7.6″ display that is visible when folding open the iPhone, but the closed screen on the outside measures a nice 5.4″ as well. The display is OLED and likely has PWM, like other OLED iPhone models.
In hand and when closed, the iPhone looks and behaves much like a standard iPhone. But unlike a standard iPhone, it can be opened and expanded into a larger expansive display that then performs much like a small iPad.
iPhone Duo features most of the same underlying tech as the iPhone 18 Pro series, including the new speedy A20 Pro processor.
There’s a front-facing camera for FaceTime and selfies, as well as two rear 48mp cameras including a standard lens and 2x telephoto lens. (personally I wish there were three cameras, including a third wide-angle lens just like iPhone 18 Pro, but maybe that will be included next time around).
iPhone Duo is available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, 2TB storage sizes, and in silver and black color options.
The foldable iPhone Duo screen offers some unique options for Standby mode as well, taking advantage of its dual-display form.
iPhone Duo includes Touch ID on the power/lock button for authentication.
The device supports fast-charging, significant battery that features up to 44 hour battery life using the outer display, and 24 hour battery life of using both displays.
iPhone Duo Pricing & Availability
Pricing on iPhone Duo is nearly twice that of iPhone 18 Pro models, starting at $1999 for the 256GB model, $2199 for the 512GB model, and up to $3199 for the 2TB model.
iPhone Duo will be available for pre-orders starting on October 16, and will likely sell out fast.
iPhone Duo will arrive to users and be available in stores starting on October 24.

Totally agree with you all very salient points, the Vision Pro let’s face it was a total flop and I think the duo may follow into that category. It’s ridiculously expensive. I think Apple have no idea that the average man and woman on the street is struggling to pay for their food at the end of each week at the moment.
I don’t know what it’s like in America but in Europe and the UK there is a cost of living crisis people even on really good salaries that say starting salary 65,000 these people are struggling because the governments are taxing them beyond avarice.
They don’t have the sort of available cash that you are talking about to purchase a phone like this, I know I can’t justify it and I can afford it quite easily. I just can’t see the point of buying something I think will probably fall apart at some point before five years.
I also don’t happen to like the form factor and personally would prefer a larger iPhone pro Max with a better screen better cameras Ford and back. I just think it’s a nonsensical idea and they’re just jumping on the bandwagon because the android manufacturers have got these phones out a couple of years before they have.
They need to be innovative and stop following the crowd.

Looks like Iphone software now rather than commercial software that you would find on a computer in an office and I have to admit I really don’t like it. Great on the phone, awful on a Macbook or desktop.

I have to admit that I seriously do not like this phone. I didn’t like the android version of it when that was released and I have seen many phones where the screen is starting to split very early signs of damage two years in.
I’m not saying the Iphone duo will go that way, but foldable displays I do not like. Would prefer a rollup one or a pullout one but not a folding one.
They say it’s a premium phone it’s not really because they’re already existing folding phones on the market not at the sort of prices. Apple are asking $2000 for this phone, in Europe where I am that’s likely to be €2320 because of the VAT. I can’t see that many people wanting to shelve out that much money to be honest or they’ll be looking to pay a much higher monthly cost to purchase it with a airtime contract.
I would rather just have a slightly bigger iPhone pro max with a better screen, better front camera and back cameras possibly even a telescopic lens ability rather than digital zoom and more storage at the first price point because I always end up having to buy one with 500 gig because I do a lot of videography and I’m catching video all day long.
Entry-level phones do not have enough storage and they should now with memory being so cheap.
Very disappointed, no news on the iPads looking to swap mine out and it looks like I’ve gotta wait another couple of months.
I think $2500 for an iPhone is crazy but if it were given to me I would certainly use it. But as a consumer, with an iPhone Pro already, and an iPad Pro already, I don’t see the point of buying this particular device even though it would merge the two. It’s really a price thing. At $1200 I would still hesitate, but possibly go for it. I am guessing this form factor will be around a long time and will come down in price as it does become more mainstream. Also I am really curious to see how the battery performs.
The iPhone 18 Pro has a really good camera but that is the only thing that interests me about it, I am bored by the design and features otherwise.
I echo other opinions here in that I would like one not only at half price, but also half size. I want something much smaller, like my old flip phone, with smaller screen on the front maybe iPhone 4/5 in size but all screen, that flips open to be the size of an iPhone Pro or iPhone Max. And I want the Pro cameras on it. Smaller overall, but folds into full size bigger. Now THAT, I would have a lot of interest in, and I bet a lot of other people would too.
Looks like a fun gadget, but the price is really high and given my iPad is just a web browser, I don’t see the value for myself. The aspect ratio is weird to me, and I would rather it be symmetrical too.
Maybe when it’s Gen 2 or Gen 5, when they work out the kinks, has cameras on par with the Pro, is thinner, and hopefully a lot cheaper, maybe I would go for one then.
Personally I would rather have a SMALLER iPhone Duo that is like the size of an iPhone Max when opened, but the size of an iPhone 4 or smaller when closed and in the pocket. I think THAT, with top notch cameras, would be a really great for me.
I also like the idea of a small flip iPhone, kind of like the old Motorola flip phones everyone used to have but an iPhone.
I think this iPhone Duo is too big for me to be practical, I will have to look at in a store.
Lets not forget that Apple has a corporate policy of a 5 year lifespan for all its hardware products. So this phone will cost owners $400 a year plus optional AppleCare and the cell service before Apple tells its owners to buy a new one that what they have is now obsolete. This is something I would think about when considering to purchase it.
It is also the first version of this style of phone from Apple. Traditionaly first versions often have bugs not found in testing that get fixed in later versions. That is why I almost never buy first versions.
Then let us not forget the recent saga of the Apple Vision Pro.
