Apple has released a supplemental update to MacOS Mojave for select 2018 MacBook Pro 15″ models. The update apparently addresses a firmware issue with the T2 security chip on those particular computers.

Labeled as “macOS Mojave 10.14.5 Supplemental Update for MacBook Pro”, the software update is specific to MacBook Pro 15″ models with the T2 security chip and is separate from the wider macOS 10.14.5 release that is available for all Mojave compatible Macs.

The supplemental update is not available for any other Mac models.

Release notes accompanying the supplemental update download and brief, stating:

“The MacBook Pro Supplemental Update addresses a firmware issue affecting 15-inch MacBook Pro computers with T2 Security Chip, and is recommended for all users.

Users with a MacBook Pro with T2 chip can find the software update available now from the Software Update mechanism within System Preferences in macOS. The update weighs in around 950 MB, and requires a reboot to complete.

Users with an eligible MacBook Pro model can also choose to download the update directly from Apple at the following link:

As always, it’s a good idea to backup a Mac before installing any system software update or firmware update.

Separately, Apple just released spec bumped MacBook Pro hardware, featuring faster CPU options and a refined keyboard mechanism.
