Apple has released iOS 14.5.1 and iPadOS 14.5.1 as updates for iPhone and iPad users. The small updates include important security fixes and are therefore recommended for all to install.

Separately, macOS Big Sur 11.3.1 update is out for Mac, watchOS 7.4.1 for Apple Watch, and iOS 12.5.3 is available for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation).

How to Download & Update iOS 14.5.1 / iPadOS 14.5.1

Always backup iPhone / iPad to iCloud, iTunes, or to Finder on Mac before installing system software updates.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”
  3. Go to “Software Update”
  4. Select “Download and Install” for iOS 14.5.1 / iPadOS 14.5.1 when it shows as available

iOS 14.5.1 and iPadOS 14.5.1 are fairly small, weighing in around 200mb, which is appropriate for a security update.

As always, the device needs to reboot to complete installation.
