The Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro and iPad Air is a game-changer in terms of making the tablet device even more productive, especially for people who are accustomed to using cursors and physical keyboards, power-users, and pros, as it brings a great trackpad and keyboard to the device.

Whether you are new to the Magic Keyboard for iPad or have been using one for a while, there’s a good chance you aren’t aware of the many trackpad gestures and tricks that are available for the handy hardware.

Here are some helpful tricks you can use for the Magic Keyboard for iPad, with trackpad tips and gestures, you’ll be improving your iPad usage in no time.

Multitasking Tricks & Gestures for Magic Keyboard Trackpad

Try these handy multitasking and multitouch tricks and gesture with the Magic Keyboard Trackpad:

  • Return to the Home Screen: swipe down with three fingers
  • Open the Multitasking screen: swipe up with three fingers and pause with the swipe up
  • Switch between open apps: swipe left or swipe right with three fingers
  • Show the Dock: swipe the cursor to the bottom of the screen
  • Close app: swipe up with three fingers and release quickly

Access iPadOS System Features with Magic Keyboard Trackpad

You can quickly access Control Center, Notification Center, Spotlight, and the Dock with the trackpad on iPad, here’s how:

  • Open Control Center: Move cursor to the top right corner of the screen
  • Open Notification Center: Move cursor to the top left corner of the screen
  • Open Spotlight Search: use two fingers to swipe down when at the Home Screen
  • Show the Dock: move the cursor to the bottom of the screen

Select Text, Cut, Copy, Paste, Zoom, Scroll

You can easily select text, copy, paste, zoom, and scroll with the Magic Keyboard trackpad as well:

  • Select text: click selected text twice
  • Copy / cut / paste selected text: select text, then click selected text with two fingers and choose “Cut”, “Copy”, or “Paste” from the menu
  • Zoom in: pinch out with two fingers
  • Zoom out: pinch in with two fingers
  • Scroll up or down in most apps: swipe up or down with two fingers on the trackpad, works in most apps

Obviously you will need an iPad Pro or iPad Air with an iPad Magic Keyboard to be able to use these tricks. Most of these tricks should also work on an iPad with an Apple Magic Trackpad setup with the device, however that is not our focus here.

    If you double click on the three dots at the top of an app that is not full screen, it will immediately become full screen.
