MacOS Sequoia 15.4 Update Released with Mail Categorization, New Emoji
MacOS Sequoia 15.4 has been released for Mac users running the Sequoia operating system. The software update includes some new features and refinements, as well as resolutions to various bugs and security patches.
For new features, MacOS Sequoia 15.4 gains the Mail Categorization feature that automatically sorts your email inbox for you that has been somewhat controversial on iPhone since it debuted, along with new Emoji icons. You’ll also find the typical array of bug fixes and security patches in this particular software update for Mac.
Aside from Sequoia, if your Mac is running macOS Sonoma or MacOS Ventura you will find updates available for those macOS versions as well.
Additionally, iPhone and iPad users will find iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 available as updates to download and install, along with updates for watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS.
How to Download & Install MacOS Sequoia 15.4 Update

Oh Mother Apple, why are you blocking access to text files? Many apps create plain old text files, often with unique file extensions (such as .CBR) and I could easily open them – prior to 15.4. Now they are viewed as a security threat. (Changing their extension to something benign, like .TXT, does not solve the problem.) It appears that each file will have to be individually addressed (after the failure to open and scolding of the user {Apple could not verify “fname.cbr” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.) by opening System Settings | Privacy and Security and choosing ‘Open Anyway’, one file at a time.
Interesting situation. The association with .txt files may have been changed improperly to a different application, you can try changing the association of text files by using Get Info on a text file > Open With > TextEdit (or your text editor of choice) > Change All
Hope that helps!
Paul
We have a few articles about this type of file type association as well, which may be of assistance:

Thanks for the suggestion…but right clicking and trying other apps (ie Visual Studio Code) gave the same result as my default editor for these extensions (Mac’s native Text Edit app): A stern warning and an option to Move to Trash. Hopefully, this is a bug and not a feature, to be addressed in a future release of the OS.
Two minutes after updating to 15.4, my email notifications didn’t work. I still get the badge in the dock’s mail icon but no banner or sound. Nothing I tried fixed it. Thanks Apple. Oh, the new Emojis are lovely.
