Beta 7 of iOS 15 & iPadOS 15 Released for Testing
Apple has released the seventh beta version of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 to users enrolled in the beta testing program for iPhone and iPad system software.
The developer beta build is available now, and is typically soon followed by a public beta release.
Any interested user can install iOS 15 public beta on iPhone, or iPadOS 15 public beta on iPad if they’re curious to, but because beta system software is buggier and less stable than final versions, it’s generally only recommended for advanced users.
Users who are beta testing iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 but decide they don’t like it can always downgrade from iOS 15 beta, assuming they have backups made from prior iOS 14.
How to Download iOS 15 Beta 7 / iPadOS 15 Beta 7
Always backup the iPhone or iPad before installing a software update:
- Open the “Settings” app
- Go to “General”
- Choose “Software Update”
- Select to “Download and install” the available iOS 15 beta 7 update
The iPhone or iPad will reboot to complete installation.
iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 include a variety of changes and new features, including a revamped Do Not Disturb mode called Focus with different Do Not Disturb mode limits, Live Text for selecting text found in photos, redesigned Notifications appearances, a changed Safari interface, Safari tab grouping, Safari Extensions support, and changes to many other apps including Health, Maps, Photos, Music, Weather, and more. A new Private Relay feature is also available for Safari users to reduce tracking on the web. iPad users also gain a refined multitasking capability, and can bring widgets to anywhere on the home screen. iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 also include new anti-child abuse surveillance features from Apple that automatically scan your photos and messages for illegal content, with reports going to authorities if such content is found, and a disabling of the users Apple ID.
Separately, Apple has released new beta versions of watchOS and tvOS as well. MacOS Monterey has not had a new beta for several weeks, however.
Apple says the final versions of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 will be released to everyone this fall.
Edward Snowden has an interesting opinion on the surveillance features Apple is building into new iOS and iPhones. Worth considering if you value your privacy and rights!
