iOS 17.7 & iPad 17.7 Updates Released with Security Fixes
Apple has released iOS 17.7 and iPadOS 17.7 as software updates for iPhone and iPad, containing important security fixes that make these updates recommended to install.
While most attention is on the freshly released iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 software updates for iPhone and iPad users, Apple has also released security updates for users who are staying on iOS 17 or iPadOS 17. If you’re not yet prepared for iOS 18 or maybe you’re simply waiting to install it for some other reason, then you should install iOS/iPadOS 17.7 to get the relevant security patches.
How to Update to iOS 17.7 & iPadOS 17.7
Be sure to backup your iPhone or iPad to iCloud and/or your computer before starting a system software update.
- Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
- Go to “General”, then go to “Software Update”
- Choose to “Update Now” when you see iOS 17.7 or iPadOS 17.7 as available
A reboot is required to finish installation.

iOS 17.7 Release Notes
Release notes accompanying the updates are brief:
This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users.
Separately, similar security software updates are also available for MacOS as Sonoma 14.7 and Ventura 13.7, alongside major software updates like MacOS Sequoia 15.0, iOS 18.0, ipadOS 18.0, tvOS 18, and watchOS 11.
I’ve noticed since installing Ventura 13.7 on my late-2019 MacBook Pro that the Music application randomly opens (three times yesterday, and already open when I started my computer this morning) and displays a blank page that takes up the central 3/4 of the screen.
Are you accidentally hitting one of the music playing buttons on the Touch Bar? Or turning on/activating Bluetooth headphones? Both of those can cause Music app to open spontaneously
Hey Joe, I was inspired to write a post based on your comment, hope it helps and offers some insight!
