GreenPois0n RC5 2 has been released, the update to 1.0 RC5 aims to fix an initialization error that some users reported. The “initialized” error seemed to be somewhat random, but it prevented the GreenPois0n jailbreak from continuing on the effected devices.

Hi guys, I also tried to download GP but the website won’t open it or it can not permits to download the GP. I don’t know What the problem is but still I want to JB my iPod touch 2g iOS 4.2.1. I also tried to download the lpsw restore file of the Idevice. But there is a network problem to download the Ipsw in order to JB the device. If you have any trick to help me out please reply!

i jailbroke my ipod ios 4.2.1 touch and everything worked perfectly except for cydia! t
he loader app had cydia in it and i downloaded it, but it only downloaded up to 45% and then it said ”extracting”?
the icon appears on the screen, but everytime i open the icon, it opens to a white screen for less than half a second and then it closes :(
can somebody advise me on what else to do?
please please please help me. i downloaded green poison for windows, went through the whole thing and it said it jailbroke it but my ipod touch screen is black and has white words on it and wont turn off or anything. its still stuck. what do i do? :(

i tried jailbreaking using greeposi0n RC5 it worked fine until after i tried opening cydia and it just crashes whats going on please help me!!

When I open cydia it says initializing filesystem. But it crashes and brings me to the home screen. any help?
I download it yesterday and now my iphone 3Gs 4.2.1 (newboot rom) is Jb by this exploit :)
when i launch greenpois0n it just repeatedly says “failed :(” ive tried RC 5 and RC 5_2… please help me ipod touch 4g
Wow, reading some of these comments, your license to operate computers should be taken away guys.
If yer a MAC OSX user, pick up a unix/linux/bsd 101 book and learn some basic stuff like how to change a directory and how to make a file executable. Your life will be a lot easier. Maybe learn VIM too.
I did everything fine, but suddenly mobile substrate crashed couple times, my iphone power it off and won’t boot again! Black Screen always, doesn’t matter if I press the sleep button or the home button or both together. :(

why are so many people having problems and why do they need to go to Terminal? Before I used Greenpois0n, I had the tethered Redsn0w 4.2.1 on my Iphone 4. All I did was download Greenpois0n, read directions to go in dfu mode and now im untethered. It was so simple.

GreenPois0n.app opens fine for me, I didn’t need to change any permissions or anything.
Very easy jailbreak.
BTW if the Loader is empty, try again because the servers are swamped, it took me a few times before Cydia installed because of it.

It is referring to the sleep and home buttons on your I OS device (whether it be iPhone,iPad or iPod touch) sleep button refers to the botton on the top (which is also the power button) home button is the circular button on the front of the device

I can’t get this to work from my mac laptop. First:
– there is no “sleep” button on my MacBook Pro
– there is no “home” button on my MacBook Pro
What am I doing wrong my friends?

But your understanding is right, If you are currently jailbroken via redsnow (tethered) you can run greenpois0n rc5 over the current jailbreak without having to start from scratch. If so then just ignore steps 9-12
Mike what version of OS X are you running. I believe you must be running 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
my problem is that greenpoison wont even start. My iphone hasnt entered into it yet. I have my iphone JBed with redsnow (tethered ofcourse) and apparently I can JB it with GP without even having to UNJB my iphone now. So Im just hoping I can get help figuring out why the program isnt even starting on my macbook. frustrating eh! lol
Rock’s instruction works for me. Mike, perhaps what you can do is to do a restore to the factory config. Unlock it via iTunes and proceed with the JB. See if this works for you as it works for me.
Ok, I have followed Rocks instructions to the “T” and here is the error I get on the 2nd terminal:

I haven’t tried it yet but will certainly do. Just don’t like the idea of running another JB (Redsn0w) over my iphone which would have been JB-ed by greenpois0n. If only greenpois0n would make it easier for everyone.
1. Make sure you’re using Greenpois0n RC5_2
2. Make sure device is connected to your Mac
3. Open Terminal
4. Type “cd Desktop” without quotes and hit enter
5. Type “open Greenpois0n.app/Contents/MacOS/greenpois0n” without quotes and hit enter. A second Terminal window will open and Greenpois0n will start
6. Follow the instructions in Greenpois0n to enter DFU mode and it will jailbreak
7. Once jailbroken, a green “Loader” will be added to your device. This is supposed to allow you to install Cydia, but mine would not. If yours is the same, go to step 8
8. Turn off your device
9. Open Redsn0w 0.9.7b6
10. Make sure the only option checked is “Install Cydia”
11. Follow the instructions in Redsnow
12. Voila! Cydia is installed, and you have an untethered 4.2.1 jailbroken device!

I tried exactly what you said DJR and it still crashes upon startup. It just wants me to relaunch, report, ignore, or reset and relaunch. Any other ideas?
try to put in “sudo” before chmod.. eg. “sudo chmod +x greenp0ison”

2. type “cd ” without quotes but with a space at the end and (DON’T HIT ENTER yet)
3. Drag the MacOS folder into the terminal and press enter.
4. Copy paste this: “chmod +x greenpois0n” no quotes
5. Hit enter

that “open” was me trying different things before. I’m a noob and tried everything and nothing works :(

I tried untethrae my teathered 3GS v. 4.2.1, BB 05.15.04 but with no succes!
Have to use Redsnow to boot again, everithing Ok after, but still tethraed. :(
almel, you can run GreenPois0n over Redsn0w and it will untether. I would recommend just a fresh jailbreak with GP though.
