How to Customize Control Center on MacOS

Are you loving using the Control Center for Mac? Want to love it even more? You can make it even more useful for your particular needs by customizing Mac Control Center for features that you regularly use.

As you may know by now, Control Center for Mac offers quick toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, Do Not Disturb, display brightness, keyboard backlighting brightness, sound levels, and more, and you can personalize these quick-access controls in macOS with relative ease.

If you’re interested to customize the Control Center on macOS Big Sur, then read on.

How to Customize Control Center on MacOS

Before you go ahead with the following procedure, make sure your Mac is running macOS Big Sur or later, since the Control Center feature isn’t available on older versions.

  1. Head over to “System Preferences” on your Mac from the Dock or  Apple menu

  2. This will open a new window on your Mac. Here, click on “Dock & Menu Bar” which is the third option in the menu located right next to Desktop & Screen Saver settings.

  3. Here, you’ll find the Control Center items on the left pane. Scroll down to the “Other Modules” section.

  4. Other Modules include the features that can be added to the Control Center. Select any module as shown below. To add it to the Control Center, make sure you check the box next to “Show in Control Center”.

  5. As for items that are already in the Control Center, you can add your favorite features to the top of the menu bar. Select any feature from this list and make sure you check the box for “Show in Menu Bar” as shown in the screenshot below.

There you go, you’ve customized the Control Center on your Mac, and hopefully made it even more useful in the process.

By default, toggles for Accessibility Shortcuts and Fast User Switching aren’t added to the Control Center, but these can be done manually by following the above steps. Fast User Switching is quite handy if you have multiple user accounts on your Mac and you want to switch between them quickly. Of course, the more apps you use, the more options you’ll have for personalized Control Center items too, and Mac laptops have additional Control Center options like display brightness and keyboard brightness controls too.

You can also move your favorite Control Center items to the menu bar makes it even easier to access these features. For example, if you enable/disable Bluetooth frequently, you can drag it into the menu bar so that you don’t have to go through the additional step of opening the Control Center to access that. Or maybe you’re always toggling Do Not Disturb, you could put that in the menu bar with a drag too. Pretty handy, right?

Obviously this is focused on Control Center for Mac, but if you use iPhone or iPad as your primarily device you can learn how to customize the Control Center on iOS and iPadOS as well. Although the steps aren’t similar due to being completely different operating systems, it’s still pretty simple and straightforward.
