iOS 14.6 beta

Apple has released the second beta versions of iOS 14.6, iPadOS 14.6, tvOS 14.6, and watchOS 7.5. A second beta of macOS Big Sur 11.4 is not yet available but presumably will be out soon too.

The second beta builds are available now to users enrolled in both the developer beta and public beta testing programs for the various Apple operating systems.

Presumably betas of iOS 14.6 and iPadOS 14.6 will focus on bug fixes, security enhancements, and general improvements to the operating systems, and no major new features are expected.

If you’re actively enrolled in the beta testing program for iOS or ipadOS, you can find the latest beta to download in the Software Update mechanism of the Settings app.

Betas of watchOS and tvOS can also be downloaded through their respective software update mechanisms, assuming the device is also enrolled in a beta testing program.

Beta operating systems are best reserved for advanced users, and thus are not recommended for the average person to run. Technically speaking, anyone can run the betas on compatible hardware however, either through the public beta program or the developer beta program.

The most up to date versions of system software for Apple devices are currently iOS 14.5 for iPhone, iPadOS 14.5 for iPad, watchOS 7.4 for Apple Watch, macOS Big Sur 11.3 for Mac, and tvOS 14.5 for Apple TV.

I definitely think Apple is more committed to IOS then MacOS and in terms of which will morph to which? Its clear Apple wants MacOS to be more like iPadOS. After selling off both my Intel Mac’s I feel Mac’s are dead to me and the future is iPads and iPhones. Big Sur was just the first nudge towards moving MacOS towards a more IOS format where Apps are installed through a centralized distribution. I just wished iPadOS moved along faster in its evolution in being a more robust OS.

hopefully they will fix the iOS 14 glitch where my iPhone will no longer give me a sound alert or a banner whenever I receive an iMessage or a text.

Is your iPhone stuck in Do Not Disturb mode?

No. I wish it was that simple.

Text and iMessage alerts stopped cold when I updated to iOS 14 way back when. Since then I’ve tried every fix I could think of and heard about and nothing works.

Funny thing is I get the alerts on my iMac and my iPad but not my iPhone.

I’m probably doing something wrong and just can’t figure it out.

I keep referring to the apple forums to see if it’s a problem for anybody else and it seems a number of folks have the same issue.

Hopefully apple will get it fixed next time around. I depend too much on text/iMessage and don’t like having to check frequently to see if I’ve received any messages.

It’s a real pain in the old wazoo.
