iOS 15, iPadOS 15, MacOS Monterey public betas

Apple has made a release candidate build available for iOS 15.3, iPadOS 15.3, and macOS Monterey 12.2, wrapping up an unusually fast beta testing period where each system software version only went through two beta builds before going to RC.

The most likely reason for the short beta period is the recently publicized Safari 15 bug which allows for browser data leaking from Safari on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Presumably the security fix has been rolled into the accelerated iOS 15.3, iPadOS 15.3, and macOS Monterey 12.2 releases, rather than issuing a small point release security update to each operating system.

It’s a fair guess that the final versions of iOS 15.3, iPadOS 15.3, and macOS Monterey 12.2 will be released sometime within the next week.

Users enrolled in the beta testing programs for iPhone and iPad can find iOS 15.3 RC and iPadOS 15.3 RC builds available to download now from Settings > General > Software Update.

No major new features are expected to be included in iOS 15.3 or iPadOS 15.3.

Mac users enrolled in the beta testing program for macOS system software will find macOS Monterey 12.2 RC available to download from the System Preferences > SOftware Update section of their Mac.

macOS Monterey 12.2 is also not likely to carry any new features or major changes, instead most likely focusing on fixing problems with macOS Monterey and various bugs.

The hotly anticipated Universal Control feature of macOS Monterey and iPad will debut in the Spring, according to Apple, and thus is probably not included in either of these releases.

The most recent stable builds of system software for iPhone and iPad are currently iOS 15.2.1 and iPadOS 15.2.1, and for Mac users are macOS Monterey 12.1 and macOS Big Sur 11.6.2.
