iOS 16.7.2, iPadOS 16.7.2, iOS 15.8, & iPadOS 15.8 Released for Older iPhone & iPad Models

 iOS 16.7.2, iOS 15.8, iPadOS 16.7.2, & iPadOS 15.8 update

Apple has released a series of software updates for older model iPhone and iPad devices, that have either not yet updated to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, or are not able to run those versions of system software. The updates include important security fixes, and are therefore recommended for all users to install, especially if you are not going to install iOS 17.1 or iPadOS 17.1 on the iPhone or iPad, respectively.

Specifically, iOS 16.7.2 and iPadOS 16.7.2 are available for iPhone 8 and later, all models of iPad Pro, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.

Meanwhile, iOS 15.8 and iPadOS 15.8 are available for all models of iPhone 6s, all models of iPhone 7, iPhone SE 1st generation, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4th generation, and iPod touch 7th generation.

How to Download iOS 16.7.2, iOS 15.8, iPadOS 16.7.2, & iPadOS 15.8 Updates

Eligible users can download the updates to your device by doing the following:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on the iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”
  3. Go to “Software Update”
  4. Choose to update iOS 16.7.2, iOS 15.8, iPadOS 16.7.2, & iPadOS 15.8, depending on your device
  5. OPTIONALLY: If your device is eligible to run iOS/iPadOS 17, scroll down below the iOS/iPadOS 17 update notice to find the other updates available

Your iPhone or iPad must restart to finish installation.

    I just got a new iPhone. Spent the better part of a day digging deep into submenus for stuff I do NOT want on and turned it off.

    Did an iOS update, and it all got turned back on again, thank you Apple several hours I will never get back.

    Until forced to because of incompatibility of the few features/apps I use, I will NEVER do any updates again.
