MacOS Ventura 13.6.4 and macOS Monterey 12.7.3

Apple has released MacOS Ventura 13.6.4 and macOS Monterey 12.7.3, each containing important security fixes, for Mac users who are not yet running macOS Sonoma. The security updates correspond with the macOS Sonoma 14.3 update that was issued for Sonoma users.

It’s not unusual for many Mac users to continue to run older versions of system software for a number of reasons, and Apple typically supports the prior two versions of MacOS with continued security updates.

No new features are included in either Ventura 13.6.4 or Monterey 12.7.3.

How to Install macOS Ventura 13.6.4 / macOS Monterey 12.7.3

Remember, installing software updates to older versions of MacOS while avoiding Sonoma is a little different from the typical update process. If you’re not careful, you may accidentally end up beginning the upgrade to Sonoma.

  1. Go to the  Apple menu in the upper left corner and choose “System Settings” (Venetura) or “System Preferences” (Monterey)
  2. Go to “General” and then to “Software Update” in System Settings (Ventura), or choose ‘Software Update’ within System Preferences (Monterey)
  3. Wait for the software update control panel to update, then click on the tiny blue “More Info…” text under the tiny text that says “Other updates are available”, directly beneath the large macOS Sonoma promo upgrade banner

  5. Select macOS Ventura 13.6.4 update or macOS Monterey 12.7.3 update, along with any other updates you wish to install, and proceed to install those updates, agreeing to the software license when presented before being able to begin installation

macOS Monterey prompts you to agree to a software license agreement for macOS Big Sur LOL

Somewhat amusingly, when you go to install updates to macOS Monterey 12.7.3, you’ll have to agree to the Apple software license agreement for… macOS Big Sur. Oops. But don’t worry, you’re not actually installing macOS Big Sur, you’re installing the expected update to Monterey. Interesting lapse regarding attention to detail, which will surely be fixed.

As usual, the Mac will restart to finish installation.

Thanks for sharing the links for the full updates !
If you don’t dig in the package you downloaded
You will not have the full installer alas, just a small installer that will download what is needed again. To have the full installer you need an app as Pacifist or Suspicious Package and follow the big size installer buried in a shared disk that you will have to mount. 😵‍💫
