Watch This 1984 Macintosh Promo Video, Featuring Bill Gates!
Would you believe that one of the original promotional videos for the Macintosh featured none other than Microsoft’s Bill Gates?!
In this fun video from 1984 you’ll see a young Bill Gates from Microsoft expressing his enthusiasm and extolling the virtues of the Macintosh computer. The famous rivalry between Apple and Microsoft hadn’t quite heated up yet, but that would begin soon after, and the rest is computing history.
Watch the full video embedded below, it’s just under 3 minutes long.
If you’re a fan of Apple history, check out our post on the Mac’s 40th birthday, and don’t miss the embedded video featuring a young Steve Jobs launching the Macintosh to the world, followed by the team behind Macintosh engaging in a fun demo and Q&A session with the audience. And if you still want more, don’t miss the fun Mac40th website to scroll through a continuous stream of every Macintosh computer ever made.
Long live the Mac!
I don’t know what’s weirder about this Macintosh commercial;
– That Steve Jobs is not in the commercial?
– That Bill Gates is in the commercial?
– That the commercial makes me want to buy the exact same Mac, today!
And how did Bill Gates somehow migrate from being the “evil” to Apple fans, to declared an “evil” for conspiracy theorists because he funds vaccines? What’s the correlation there? Is Rival a better word for this?
