How to Check iPhone Personal Hotspot Data Usage
The latest versions of iOS and iPadOS support a feature that allow you to easily see who and what devices are using data on Personal Hotspot. This is particularly useful if you find yourself using Personal Hotspot often, and perhaps find yourself hitting overages or getting throttled from Personal Hotspot data usage over cellular.
By checking device specific Personal Hotspot data usage on your iPhone or iPad, you can take the guesswork and mystery out of what connected device is consuming data, and, take any appropriate action based on that information.
You will need to be running iOS 26.4.1 or newer to have this feature on your iPhone, and of course you will need to have Personal Hotspot feature active on your iPhone or cellular iPad.
How to See Per Connected Device Personal Hotspot Data Usage on iPhone & iPad
- Open the ‘Settings’ app on the iPhone or iPad with Personal Hotspot running
- Tap on “Personal Hotspot”
- Go to “Data Usage”
- Here you will see a list of devices connected and using data, and their data usage

The list will show the names of the devices using personal hotspot, and the amount of data they have used individually.
Note the information in this Settings panel does not backdate, so prior data usage of Personal Hotspot will only be generally categorized as “Other Devices”. Only new connections going forward from installing iOS 26.4 (or newer) will be individually categorized.
With how easy it is to start an iPhone Hotspot from iPad or from a Mac, it can be surprisingly easy to hit bandwidth limits and overages. While some cellular plans offer unlimited personal hotspot data, most of them will start throttling the speed of the hotspot past a certain bandwidth usage, and this can be helpful to keep track of when you’re trying to avoid throttling or overage issues.
Personal Hotspot is an incredibly useful feature, whether for working on the go, as a backup internet connection, or even as a primary connection in some situations, you can learn some more helpful tips and tricks for Personal Hotspot here in our archives on the topic..
