Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs is going on medical leave for an undetermined amount of time. Here is the email that Steve sent to his fellow Apple employees regarding the matter:

Team,

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Steve

It should be noted that Steve Jobs took a similar medical leave in January of 2009 before returning to Apple roughly 6 months later.

Get well soon Steve!

In contradiction with James’ comment I am not sure that it is very good, for Mac users (I said Mac and not Apple) if Steve Jobs stay in Apple.
SJ did so much for Apple, that is certain, but today SJ is transforming the Mac in a kind of big iPhone or iPad. The Mac system will become more and more close (it begins with Mac App Store), and the Mac as we knew for decades will disappear very fast.
My prediction for 2011/2012 is the abandon of pro machines like the Mac Pro.
It is sad for people like me that really needs these powerful and expandable machines
I use Apple products for 27 years, and today I feel betrayed by my favorite computer brand…
So I wish a good future to Steve as a man.

steve jobs is the man and allways will be he has made apple a global brand with a huge market share not like any manufacurer or brand of pc has, the idea of the ipod saved apple in the late 90’s, then came the iphone the ipad the weight this company has in the market place is massive , and i as an apple user since the mac classic am a little scared to say the least this man loves apple and feels it this had to do with everything from desighn to build quality this man lives apple he is apple !!!!!!!!!! a question for you all ….is an apple the same with out its core mmmmmmmmmmm the answer is no without its core its its core that brings new life with the seed work it out steve my thoughts are with you and your family…… jimjamdman

Does this mean he won’t be unveiling the iPad 2???

  7. Michael says:

Everyone needs some time off, if you’re feeling ill then it makes sense to take some time to recover.

Thanks for just stating the facts, the rest of the blogworld is claiming the demise of Apple and the end of the world, very silly.
