MacOS Tahoe 26.2 Update Released for Mac

Dec 12, 2025 - 4 Comments

MacOS Tahoe 26.2 update fixes some bugs and adds a new feature or two

Apple has released macOS Tahoe 26.2 to the general public, becoming available for all Mac users to download as a software update to macOS Tahoe. macOS Tahoe 26.2 includes a few new features, including the ability for adding alarms to Reminders, and a FaceTime ring lighting feature, and resolves a few bugs as well as adding some essential security patches. If you’re running macOS Tahoe, you will want to install macOS Tahoe 26.2.

Update: macOS Tahoe 26.2 does not fix the Reduce Transparency bug where transparency remains prominent throughout MacOS even if enabled, with the accessibility feature being broken since the Tahoe 26.1 release. This is a feature many Mac users rely on to reduce overlapping text and other annoying legibility issues with Tahoe that did not exist in prior MacOS versions. Some users are also reporting a new bug/issue in MacOS Tahoe 26.2 where local networking between Macs running Tahoe and Sequoia no longer works.

Aside from macOS Tahoe 26.2, Apple has also released iOS 26.2 for iPhone, iPadOS 26.2 for iPad, watchOS 26.2 for appleWatch, tvOS 26.2 for appleTV, and if you’re on a Mac that is not yet running Tahoe, you will find MacOS Sequoia 15.7.3, and macOS Sonoma 14.8.3.

How to Download & Install MacOS Tahoe 26.2 Update for Mac

Always backup Mac with Time Machine or your backup method of choice before starting any system update:

  1. From the  Apple menu, go to “System Settings”
  2. Go to “General” and then go to “Software Update”
  3. Choose to “Update Now” to start downloading and installing macOS Tahoe 26.2 update on the Mac

(Note the buggy user interface of Liquid Glass in the Software Update control panel; overlapping text in the search bar because Reduce Transparency doesn’t work, and Dark Mode navigation buttons showing in Light Mode, what a refined experience. Will the Tahoe 26.2 update fix any of this? We’ll find out! Update: No, MacOS Tahoe 26.2 does not fix the overlapping text bug or Reduce Transparency not fully working)

MacOS Tahoe 26.2 is a fairly large download, and installation may take a while. Your Mac will need to restart to complete installation.

If you’re running MacOS Sequoia or macOS Sonoma, you will also find optional security updates to install for those macOS versions instead, just be sure to avoid the big macOS Tahoe upgrade banner.

Local networking no longer works on any Macs after installing macOS Tahoe 26.2. Can’t find any Mac on the network now, even if I use AFP or SMB and direct IP connection. GREAT WORK APPLE.

Does anyone at Apple use a Mac anymore? Was Tahoe written by AI assisted vibe-code outsourced developers in Dehli who mostly use Chromebooks? Because it feels about that quality.

No wonder the their executive staff are bailing out, the rot must run deep.

Tahoe is the worst update I have ever installed and each new update to Tahoe somehow makes it worse.

  4. John says:

I’ve been waiting for the FaceTime ring lighting feature for years – just kidding – but how about fixing these things:

    1. Folder content reverts to descending order spontaneously at times
    2. Tahoe does not show low battery warning for wireless keyboard
    3. Dock hides spontaneously at times, have to toggle “Automatically hide and show the Dock” to get it back
    4. When launching Mail, have the previous selection (like Inbox) be the same selection as it was when quit
    5. Mail does not show the content of the “next” email unless it’s clicked off and on again
    6. When reopening a window in Finder, have its size and position be the same as it was when closed
    7. Side and corner resize handles way too fussy
    8. After creating a new folder, label may not be writable until it’s (repeatedly) re-selected
    9. Displays weird text beam or triangle cursor at times
