iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available for pre-order starting this Friday, September 12, with the actual shipping date arriving a week later on Friday, September 19. That latter Friday will also be when they appear for purchase in physical Apple Store locations.

Pre-orders will be done through the online Apple Store, and the pricing has been set to start at $199 for an iPhone 6 with two-year contract subsidy. The iPhone 6 Plus starts $100 higher with a two year contract subsidy at $299. Both of the entry-level models have 16GB of storage, but the next model up for both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus offers 64GB of storage.

If you have a desire to pickup the iPhone 6 and get your hands on one relatively early in the release cycle, it is highly recommended to participate in pre-orders or to wait in a line at an Apple Store. The iPhone routinely sells out upon launch and is often backordered for several weeks, and the iPhone 6 is unlikely to be any different. It’s not yet known when exactly pre-orders will begin, but 12AM PST (midnight) is not unusual. Ambitious individuals will likely begin lining up at Apple Stores relatively soon so they can buy one on release day.

Sandwiched in between the iPhone dates is iOS 8, which will be released on September 17 as a free download for other compatible devices. The Apple Watch will be available sometime in “early 2015”.

Only losers here so far. Apple event was history in making. Competition shattered. Apple rules. Steve Jobs take a victory lap.

My iPhone4 makes great phone calls. My $28 watch tells me what time it is. Cash still spends and no one will own my life story.

iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Apple Pay were the biggest deals for me. The Apple Watch was completely underwhelming – merely an identity bracelet for the hardcore Apple fanboy.
