Apple is well known for choosing gorgeous wallpapers for iOS and OS X, and the release of iOS 8 is no different with it’s stunning default wallpaper of our own milky way galaxy glowing over a snowy mountain peak. While iOS 8 will be released to download shortly for everyone with a compatible device, you don’t have to wait that long to decorate your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Android, or Windows PC with the gorgeous milky way shot.
Just grab the appropriately sized version from the links below. If you’re going to set the wallpaper for anything other than an iPhone or iPod, it’s probably best to go with the higher resolution iPad version which we link to first. Enjoy!

For those of us who dabble around (even poorly) with photo manipulation apps like Pixelmator and Photoshop, you may be interested to discover that the original image taken by photographer Espen Haagensen actually includes a little glowing cabin in the foreground too, but Apple edited the shelter out for use as the default wallpaper image on the new iOS release.
The milky way wallpaper first appeared in the iOS 8 GM build. Earlier iOS 8 developer versions used an under-the-sea image as the default wallpaper instead, that picture seems to be missing from the iOS 8 final release, but it is still available on the web for iPhone and iPad for those who preferred the way it looks to the galaxy.

Here’s all of them from, get the iPad versions if you want the actual iOS 8 images though, the iPhone sizes look like they were done with screen shots rather than raw image files, the resolution is inconsistent and lowgrade
