iOS 14 beta and iPadOS 14 beta

Apple has released iOS 14.2 beta 2 and iPadOS 14.2 beta 2 to iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users who are actively participating in the beta testing programs. Developer beta builds roll out first and are soon followed by the same build as public betas.

Separately, watchOS 7.2 beta 2 and tvOS 14.2 beta 2 have also been made available, along with macOS Big Sur beta 9.

Betas of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 include a new Shazam control center option to identify music, and a handful of new Emoji icons.

How to Download iOS 14.2 Beta 2 & iPadOS 14.2 Beta 2

Always backup the device before installing system software updates.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”, then go to “Software Update”
  3. Choose “Download and Install” for “iOS 14.2 beta 2” or “iPadOS 14.2 beta 2”

Completing installation requires the device to reboot.

Given the versioning of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2, it’s conceivable that interim software updates will be released before the final versions of 14.2 are available.

For example, iOS 14.0.1 and iPadOS 14.0.1 was made available already, and it’s conceivable that iOS 14.1 or iPadOS 14.1 could arrive with more bug fixes and refinements as well.

Aside from the new betas for iOS and iPadOS, there are also new beta builds of watchOS, tvOS, and macOS Big Sur beta 9 available to users participating in those beta testing programs as well.
