How to Force Restart iPhone SE

If you have a newer model iPhone SE (2020 model year or newer), you might be wondering how you can force restart the device.

This article will be guiding you through the necessary steps to properly force restart your new iPhone SE.

You can’t force reboot an iPhone by simply turning it off and back on. That’s called a soft restart, which you can learn how to do on a new iPhone SE here. Unlike a regular restart, a force reboot can sometimes resolve minor iOS-related software issues and bugs on your device, like if a device is frozen. This method can also be used if your iPhone isn’t responding, and you’re unable to turn it off and on normally.

Regardless of what iOS version your iPhone is running, you can follow this procedure to hard reboot your device. Now without further ado, let’s take a look at the basic steps you need to keep in mind.

That’s all there is to it. Now you’ve learned how to force restart your new iPhone SE.

It’s important to note that these button presses should occur in quick succession for the force restart to actually work. You’ll be holding the side button for approximately 10 seconds until you’re able to see the Apple logo on the screen, so be patient. If it fails, simply start over and try again.

Force restarting your iPhone SE may or may not result in data loss from any unsaved data, like progress in an app you were using before your device froze or stopped responding. So, be aware of the risks. That being said, this is one of the first troubleshooting steps you need to follow, whenever you’re having software-related issues on your device.

Although this procedure focuses on the new iPhone SE, you can follow these steps to force restart any other iPhone. This includes force restarting the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus that features a physical home button. This force restarting method is no different on iPhones with Face ID like the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

We hope you were able to familiarize with the way iOS devices like the iPhone SE handle hard resets or force restarts. Are you switching from an Android smartphone? If so, how’s your experience with iOS so far? Do share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section down below.

Could have used this yesterday. I was quite puzzled. Had an iPhone 6+ just prior to SE 2020 so I was used to, and expected , home bottom + on\off to accomplish a hard start. What purpose, do you think, it serves to change the hard start?
