Download iOS 17 Public Beta Now
Apple has released the iOS 17 public beta for iPhone, and iPadOS 17 public beta for iPad, available to any user who is curious about the upcoming version of system software for their devices.
Additionally, Apple also released MacOS Sonoma public beta, along with public betas for WatchOS 10 and tvOS 17.
While the public beta is open to anyone with a compatible device, beta system software is notoriously less reliable, less stable, and more prone to crashing and experiencing performance issues, compared to final versions of system software.
Downloading & Installing iOS/iPadOS 17 Public Beta
If you are interested in running the iOS 17 public beta on iPhone, or the iPadOS 17 public beta on iPad, head on over to https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram on your device, sign-in with your Apple ID, and enroll in the beta program.
After your Apple ID has been enrolled in the public beta program, you can find the iOS 17 public beta and iPadOS 17 public beta available to download via Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates > choose ‘iOS/iPadOS 17 Public Beta’, and you’ll then find the beta versions appearing in software update.
You should backup your iPhone or iPad before installing any beta system software. Ideally you’ll backup to iCloud, as well as to a computer with Finder/iTunes/Apple Devices.
Because the developer version of the iOS 17 beta and iPadOS 17 beta have also been made free and have been around for over a month already, there may be less overall interest in the public beta program, since many curious users have likely already installed the developer betas onto their iPhone or iPad.
The final version of iOS 17 for iPhone and iPadOS 17 for iPad will be released in the fall.
