How to Adjust Liquid Glass on iPhone & iPad

The Liquid Glass interface offers a fresh look for the iPhone and iPad interface, with plenty of translucency across the operating system. With iOS 27 and ipadOS 27, Apple has introduced a new feature that lets you adjust Liquid Glass, allowing you to control the level of translucency and transparency considerably.
Whether you want maximum Liquid Glass look, or you find the transparency effects distracting or difficult to read, the Liquid Glass slider lets you adjust the interface to exactly how you like it, from more clear, to tinted.
How to Adjust Liquid Glass & Opacity on iPhone & iPad with iOS 27
- Open “Settings app” then go to “Appearance”
- Tap on “Liquid Glass”
- Now drag the slider to adjust the appearance as you see fit, dragging all the way to the left maximizes the Clear look of Liquid Glass, dragging to the right increases the tint and opacity
- Tap back when done, the change is immediate throughout the operating system

This works the exact same on iPhone and iPad with iOS 27 or newer.
Here’s what Maximum Opacity looks like, in contrast to the Maximum Liquid Glass as seen in the screenshot above:

With the fully tinted look maximizing the tint and opacity, you have effectively turned off most of the Liquid Glass look.
And some users may prefer a happy medium, which is a mix of the two:

And of course you can go anywhere in between, to really dial in the intensity.
You can make this adjustment at any time by returning to Settings > Appearance.
Personally I have come to really like the Liquid Glass look, especially since it has been refined in iOS 27, ipadOS 27, and macOS 27. And that’s not just because of appearances, but because using Liquid Glass with Clear Icons is basically the only way to mute the bright red badge on icons, plus reduce the garish visual colors that are all over the operating system.

What your iPhone, iPad (or Mac) looks like is customizable and up to you, so whether you prefer the Liquid Glass aesthetic, or a more opaque tinted look, you can make that change any time. If you find yourself squinting to distinguish controls and text, the more tinted opaque setting may be better for you, but don’t forget that you can also use Bold Text and Increase Font Size to make things easier to see and read on your device as well.
