MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 Update Available for Download
Apple has released MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 to all Mac users running the Mojave operating system. The macOS 10.14.5 update includes several bug fixes along with AirPlay 2 support for AirPlay 2 compatible smart TVs.
Mac users running MacOS High Sierra or Sierra will also find a Security Update available for those prior system software releases.
Separately, Apple also released iOS 12.3 update for iPhone and iPad, alongside tvOS 12.3 for Apple TV and watchOS 5.2.1 for Apple Watch.
How to Install MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 Update
The simplest way to install a software update in MacOS Mojave is through the Software Update control panel. Be sure to backup the Mac with Time Machine (or a backup of your choice) before proceeding with any system software update.
- Go to the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen, and then choose “System Preferences”
- Select the “Software Update” control panel
- Choose “Update Now” when MacOS 10.14.5 appears in the list of available updates
Note: Security Update 2019-003 for macOS High Sierra and MacOS Sierra will be found in the Mac App Store “Updates” tab instead.
The Mac will automatically reboot itself to complete installation. How long it takes to complete updating to 10.14.5 depends on a variety of factors, including the speed of the internet connection to download the software update, the speed of the Mac, the Mac model itself, and what the existing MacOS installation version is.
MacOS 10.14.5 weighs in up to 2.8GB for some Mac models.

Another option is to download MacOS 10.14.5 as a package update or combo update directly from Apple, outside of the software update mechanism. Updating Mac OS by using a combo update is relatively easy but generally reserved for advanced users:
- MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 Combo Update
- MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 Update (Delta update)
- Security Update 2019-003 (High Sierra)
- Security Update 2019-003 (Sierra)
The combo update can be used to update MacOS Mojave from a prior Mojave release, allowing for updating directly from an earlier Mojave build like macOS 10.14.2 to macOS 10.14.5 for example, whereas the delta update can only be used to update from 10.14.4 to 10.14.5.

What error message do you see?
You can also try to install the update through the MacOS 10.14.5 Combo Update installer.
Be sure to backup your Mac before installing any software update.
Since installing the update I am getting spurious maximising of apps that have been minimised onto the task bar. None of these apps have been clicked but it seems that apps that poll regularly, such the mail app, will jump up and down and maximise when polling takes place. Really annoying (and dangerous) if you are using the keyboard in another app at the time, as the newly maximised app then takes on the keystrokes you are using intended for the other app.
If you use HomeBrew and Aria2, here is the Terminal Command:
aria2c https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2019/macos/041-57078-20190513-245b1623-e068-4af8-b6d7-472131543232/macOSUpdCombo10.14.5.dmg
You may as well download it, using you-get or other Terminal based Downloaders, just replace aria2c for you-get, etc.
Has anyone noticed that this new update makes Bootcamp fail when partitioning the disk?
Apple support who have tried to help me but say 10.14.5 has messed Bootcamp up, where as it worked with 10.14.4 (no idea if that is true). Brand new iMac here came with 10.14.4 and I updated to 10.14.5 as the authorised dealer I purchased from said it was safe to do so and also the Apple site for bootcamp says Bootcamp works best when you’re using the latest version of the operating system (no it does not). Can’t roll back to 10.14.4 as when I first tried to use Time machine I found out you can’t backup to the internal fusion drive even though there is loads of free space, so I have had to purchase a 2TB drive for backup.
Why is it impossible to create a partition without it getting stuck half way? Apple now tell me I need to wait for Apple to fix Bootcamp with a future update, assuming one will come to fix it. I’ll more than likely end up being stuck with a new machine I cannot install Windows 10 pro to :( Should have stuck with PC’s ahhhh lol
Just updated to 10.14.5 three days ago. I have a macbook pro late 2013, 500Gb 8Gb ram. Update took 30 hours to complete. Now my mac is beach balling all the time.
Ive installed about 4 apps to speed up my mac, including CLEANMYMACX , Iboostup, CC cleaner and done every performance suggestion. My drive has 270Gb free.
I have no apps on startup that slow down PC, no apps running in background. not even spotlight.
I’m so frustrated i want to buy another mac. Please help. I’m not as productive as i used to be.
Activities that would normally take me 10 mins are now taking me 30 mins. Have to restart my mac about twice a day in the hope it improved performance. Can’t even watch movies without my VLC player freezing every 3 mins.
Please Help.
Open “Activity Monitor” and sort by CPU, see what is using your Mac processor.
Another thing you can do is it leave it plugged in and turned on, let Spotlight, Photos, etc sort themselves out.
Most of those ‘cleaner’ apps you installed are junkware and will make the Mac slower… best to avoid those type of things.
Hello! I have late 5K Imac late 2015 and I updated to 10.14.5 today. It just killed my Imac. My i mac freezes when I try to open my external hard drive or any software like Capture 1 , Spotify , Photoshop… I reinstalled 10.14.4 with time machine and there is no problem now! What should I do? I just did not understand what happened!
Hallo
Same smb-issue here. MacOs 10.14.XX is getting worse and worse. Office with 10 iMacs cant connect (smb) properly to mac mini Server running Mojave 10.14.5. First Apple killed the Server-App, and now they silently kill the file sharing option. ACL`s not working properly, even when set in Terminal, Macs running OS prior 10.14 have folder permission issues and now smb-service dies after 20min. For the hours I already spent in server administration, we could have bought two new iMacs.
If we could we would swap to any Linux, or El Capitan. But unfortunately we need macOS for our CAD-Software and the Mini is not downgradable. As everywhere said on the net, Mac is not for pro users anymore.
A fix is needed, right now!
Hi Paul
Did you find anything? I just get confirmed vom apple support, that there is a smb bug in 10.14.5 that smb hangs in a deadlock from time to time if there are more than one connection… ( in my case 10 user every 4-6h )
cheers Manuel
Hallo, I also have a lot of Problems since I made the Update to 14.5. I can not Update the Adobe Creative Cloud, I can not Update any App from the Product-Manager from “Toontrack”. l’m not able to boot from the Time Machine starting with Option key ( Alt) because the hard drive ist not available ….
My Thunderbold-Interface ( Zoom TAC-8 ) does not work any longer ….
This will be the last Update I have done – Thank you Apple!
I’m having the same problem with the Zoom TAC-8. I’ve contacted the manufacturer and they haven’t replied to any of my messages. There’s no sense of urgency about fixing the issue at all. So frustrating.
We also experience a lot of trouble with our SMB – Shares in our about 20 iMac-office environment… it started right after upgrading the Macs to 10.14.5…
Please help; we already had this a couple of years ago with another MacOS-Upgrade…
Please fix this soon! Thanks!! :-)
After OS 10.14.5 update, my Music Library in iCloud can not be updated. When trying to do it I get the following message: “Can not update Genius results because the iTunes Store does not recognize your iTunes library”.
“Select : File; Library; Disable Genius”
There’s no way to disable Genius, only update.
How to fix it?
Thks
OK here’s a weird issue that you might encounter with updating to macOS Mojave 10.14.5 or later, I think it forces APFS or something. Anyway you get a weird error like “failed to unwrap volume key” APFS errors or “failed to unwrap meta crypto space”. The symptom is usually the Mac is stuck on Apple logo, never booting beyond the Apple logo.
If you get the “failed to unwrap volume key” APFS errors on boot, do this fix:
– Restart the Mac into Recovery Mode (hold down COMMAND R on system start)
– In Recovery Mode, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal
– Find the hard drive volume:
diskutil apfs list
– Unlock the volume using the following (replace diskXs1 with your disk volume):
diskutil apfs unlockVolume diskXs1
– Now update the preboot for that disk, again replace diskXs1 with yours:
diskutil apfs updatePreboot diskXs1 -od /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default
– Reboot the Mac
I found this on Twitter and it worked for me
Thank you so match!
Mate, you are awesome! Thanks a lot.
Could you provide a link to the twitter post please, I want to say thanks to the author.
Having this issue any time I enable FileVault in 10.14.5
The above fix did not work any ideas?
Try it again, the drive probably has to concert to APFS (assuming it’s on HFS now). Kind of annoying…
Try using the MacOS 10.15.5 Combo Update as well if the 10.14.5 generic update is not working.
It was already an APFS Volume when the update occurred. In fact, it was already encrypted when the update was done.
I’ve done it twice once with the drive encrypted and once with the drive not encrypted.
I’ve also completely wiped the drive and reinstalled straight from a bootable flash drive multiple times.
It still did not fix the problem.
Since updating to 10.14.5 my late 2015 27″ iMac screen starts flashing whenever either the mouse or trackpad is used .
Have done a hardware check and all 100%.
Any answers as to a fix appreciated !!!
If you are on 10.14 now, you should be able to get the update from system preferences, software update or download the update directly from apple’s website.
2019 old macbookpro 10.14 now, but how to upgrade 10.14.5
?
don’t know what all the people here are b**chin’ about?! My update worked, as always with macOS, fast and flawless! So far no problems. Quite the opposite: the first thing I noticed was that the battery lasts about half an hour longer!!!
Well, since I updated to MacOS Mojave 10.14.5 it has slowed down, will not allow me to change startup page and will not close the Security & Privacy window!
I am going to try the updates and pray it works!
My iMac is a Mid2014 Processor 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 this is the first time in 5 years that I’ve had any issues!!!
I know its time for a new one but I love the one I have!!!
I had the same issue as Lee. We have 15 people that connect to SMB with the File Server and they can’t stay connected for more than 10 minutes before I had to restart the server. I ended up having to downgrade to get it to work properly.
Hi.
Having the same issue since moving from 10.14.4 to 10.14.5. Could you tell me how to roll back to 14.4 please? This is a major issue for me.
I’m pretty sure you would have to have a time Machine or other system backup to roll back. Individual incremental updates (.4 to .5 etc.) aren’t downloadable from Apple.
You can still get 10.13 though if it came with your system originally, via the appstore.
Thanks for that Daniel. Managed to roll back to 10.14.4 using Time Machine and the connectivity seems a lot more stable than it did using 10.14.5. We’re running 4 iMacs to a Mac Mini server containing images and pre-Mojave we had no issues at all as we were still running AFP connections. Thanks to our new Mini being an APFS file system AFP isn’t an option any more. Seems that a few people are getting SMB connection errors. Hopefully it’s sorted soon.
Dont install 10.14.5, it kills File Sharing SMB. Two different machines and different places and SMB dies after anything more than 20 minutes. The only solution is to activate AFP and use that. Thanks Apple, another great job. Yes the mac is faster, but killing SMB, really bad
I use SMB frequently, I will look into this. I updated to 10.14.5 and have not found a problem with Samba shares yet. SMB is used so often in the workplace and home networks, this would be a big problem if SMB does not work with MacOS now.
I installed it and at first all seemed correct, then after all users connected via SMB get disconnected. I had to enable AFP for them to connect
SMB File Sharing (both up and down) works fine for me in 10.14.5. Don’t always presume it’s the OS, if no one else is reporting this problem…. guess what, it’s probably an issue on your end.
The problem people are having is being reported elsewhere as well. It’s also intermittent, so I (and others) didn’t notice it right away.
Have a Mac Mini that I updated to 10.14.5 last week and nothing but trouble with the SMB sharing since. We share out about 10 different folders to several Mac’s and a few Windows computers and now constantly dropping all the shares at once.
Very intermittent. Looks like i heading back to 10.14.4 via Time Machine backup.
Found a bug, SMB sharing, it keeps cutting off all SMB connected users and its doing it on two different machines. If I enable AFP users can connect. If I turn off SMB sharing it sits there saying its shutting it down but does nothing leaving the only choice to reboot the Mac. I have now disabled Spotlight on all hard drives and removed it as a user from sharing. Rebooted and I will see what happens. Thanks Apple, apart from the speed increase another problem created!
I am having the same problems here. I really feel like 10.14 is a perpetual beta release. If I could get a web browser working, I’d go back to Snow Leopard.
Download it from Apple directly as a combo update and installed yesterday and, I know it’s hard to believe, it has improved my iMac’s performance.
If I wasn’t tetotal, I’d have a stiff drink to recover from the shock of not having to sort out yet more Apple caused problems…

Yes this version feels a lot faster , my 2014 Macmini has never been this good .
Does Quicktime pro 7 and similar apps are still working on this OS update or they won’t work anymore if I do update my MacBook Pro and my Mac Mini?
The legacy QuickTime 7 version is no longer supported in Mac OS 10.12 and later.

Some Mac users had problems with Gmail accounts in Mail app for MacOS Mojave with prior builds, if you’re still having problems with Gmail accounts in Mail app on MacOS 10.14.5 then you can try to do this:
– Remove the Gmail accounts from the Mail app
– Manually re-add the Gmail account(s) but don’t use the ‘Add Gmail’ option instead use the “Other Mail” option to manually enter the appropriate Gmail data, mail servers, username, password
Some people had success with simply re-adding the Gmail account through the ‘Add Gmail / Google’ button but not everyone. If that fails, try the Other Mail option and set it up manually and it should work.
Hope that helps someone.
You can also just use iCloud.com as email address…. Ha
I also set up my mail accounts manually. So far its stopped the connection problems and the need to verify/authenticate mail with Safari.
Sad to have to, but it works.
I also had that problem. Very annoying! But this new update seems to fixed the problem. Since the update last night there were no mail-accounts offline anymore. Not on my Macbook Air neither on my iMac at work!
I had to re-add my aol.com and@outlook.com email addresses to Mail in MacOS Mojave, but I guess this happens to Gmail.com email too
Neither is working for me. If i try to add it manually I just get the spinning wheel of death that goes no-where. If I add it via the add google account, then I get the same result of not being able to send emails, it just doesn’t like the outgoing server. Any other ideas? I really need to get it back up and running again for work. Thanks
Hmmmm….. ran SW update, says 10.14.4 is latest. Check app store too, same thing. Checked OSX update site, same thing. Where the hell did you get the update????
MacOS 10.14.5 update is available through Software Update in System Preferences on any Mac running Mojave. Sometimes you have to close System Preferences and reopen it to see the update available.
You can also download it from Apple directly as a combo update from other Mojave releases:
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2000
I installed it earlier and am running MacOS 10.14.5 now, fairly uneventful update thus far (which is a good thing!).
SW update says I am up to date also.
Just installed macOS 10.14.5 with the Combo Update on a MacBook Air 2018 model, it took about 30 minutes and no problems.
There was also an apparent firmware update in mine but I has skipped the prior updates so it may have been from one of those.
Anyway, let’s hope this stops the t2 crashes and screen flicker thing.
i have a problem with the update. when i clicked on ‘update now’, it says ‘unable to verify software update. you can try again to complete the installation.’
what now?
Does the battery still drain while lid is closed? I installed mojave when it was released but the battery drain was horrible. I am thinking of installing mojave again but i am scared of the battery drain overnight while lid closed.
