Custom email signatures are commonplace, whether they include simple contact details or a complete HTML signature on Mac Mail. A frequent further customization to email signatures is to include an image or logo, which is what we will show you how to create in the Mac Mail app for Mac OS X.
A strange bug that continues to persist in iOS for iPhone mysteriously causes all phone contacts to suddenly disappear from the Phone app on the device. Most users will never experience the missing contacts bug, but it can be disconcerting if encountered.
This missing contacts bug is not subtle and seems to happen at random, with the Phone app losing the “Favorites” and “Contacts” tabs, as well as the Phone app losing all identifying contact information for existing phone numbers, making every phone number in the recents list appear as unrecognized with no attached contact name, picture, or any other details.
Now that iOS 10 public beta is available to install for anyone, users can run the beta system software on any compatible iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Of course since it’s beta software, users may encounter bugs, or there may be behavior that is generally unexpected or could be improved upon in the iOS 10 betas.
Rather than just being annoyed, beta testers can do their part to improve iOS 10 by reporting bugs directly to Apple. Additionally, the Feedback app in iOS 10 Public Beta can be used to offer general feedback about iOS 10 to Apple, offering the beta tester the potential to help shape the next major iOS release.
Some Mac users may wish to downgrade from MacOS Sierra Beta and revert back to OS X El Capitan, this is particularly common if you have found things to be less than stable or otherwise problematic and would like to return to a more stable operating system experience – a fairly common scenario for beta testers. Spotlight Search displays various ‘news’ headlines in modern versions of iOS for iPhone and iPad, and while some users may find this information useful, others don’t care to see what are often tabloid-like headlines splashed across their iPhone and iPad search function. Fortunately with a little effort you can quickly turn off the News headlines from Spotlight and stop them from appearing entirely in iOS search results.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where Bluetooth needs to be enabled on a Mac, but you don’t have a mouse or keyboard handy? This can pose a conundrum; in order to re-enable Bluetooth, you must use a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard… That may sound a little silly, but it’s a situation which can arise if you use a Bluetooth keyboard or Bluetooth mouse, and if Bluetooth gets disabled somehow. Since most desktop Mac usage scenarios utilize Bluetooth hardware, it’s not as rare as it may sound, and it can be challenging to enable the Bluetooth service and thus regain access to input devices on the Mac.
We’re going to show you how to tackle that situation in Mac OS, so that you can enable Bluetooth even if you can’t connect a Bluetooth mouse or Bluetooth keyboard to the computer to do so.
Ever wanted to be alerted to comments and activity on a specific Instagram account or post? Maybe it’s your best friends Instagram, your kids, a brand contest, something posted by a crush, or someone you’re secretly admiring, whatever the reason you can selectively enable notifications for individual Instagram accounts posts rather easily. This is all the more useful now that Instagram has started using a strangely discombobulated algorithmic timeline where missing out on particular IG posts has become a common theme.
If you spend a lot of time at the command line, you undoubtedly find yourself adjusting and editing text and commands, and you likely often need to move the cursor to a further position in the Terminal from where it’s actively located. Sure you can use the arrow keys to move left and right on a per-character basis, or you can use the handy put cursor at mouse position trick, but another option is to move the cursor position word by word in Terminal, skipping back or forward by entire word blocks rather than individual text characters.
Active individuals who use the iPhone Health app to track their fitness and distance may find it helpful to switch distance measurements from miles to kilometers and vice versa. This is particularly useful for people who would be doing something like training for a 5K but they’re accustomed to using miles as a distance measurement, and similar situations.
With a simple toggle, you can change the iPhone distance measurement unit between kilometers and miles and back again. The change is immediate and carries backwards to prior activity as well as forward to current and future activity, becoming the new default setting unless it is changed again.
Many of the most modern Macs have processors which include a feature called Turbo Boost, this feature allows a processor to temporarily run above its standard clock rate when requested by the operating system. Turbo Boost can accelerate the performance of a Mac (or a PC for that matter) but it can also lead to increased energy usage, meaning the Mac may run hotter and the MacBook battery may drain faster when it is activated. Accordingly, some advanced Mac users may wish to toggle this feature themselves, manually disabling TurboBoost when they wish to prolong battery life at the expense of general computing performance. Of course, you can also re-enable Turbo Boost, which is the default state on modern Macs.
The Google Chrome web browser is quite powerful with many interesting under-the-hood options that are hidden from the average user, but with a little digging around you can uncover a variety of power features that allow users to perform helpful tasks. One such hidden feature is the ability to manually clear out Chrome DNS host cache from just the browser itself, this can be invaluable for situations where a user has changed DNS settings or where flushing system DNS in OS X is either insufficient, ineffective, or impossible. While this could be valuable for any user who is working with DNS, web workers and developers should find this Chrome specific DNS clearing trick to be particularly useful.
Having full email access from anywhere is one of the great perks of an iPhone. Forwarding an email is one of the more popular Mail app abilities in iOS, but it is commonly misused or even accidentally used. Let’s review how to properly forward an email from iOS Mail app in order to pass it along to another email address, so that you can be sure you’re using the feature as intended.
Some Mac users may encounter a stranger wi-fi issue where the wireless menu icon has an “X” in it, and the wi-fi dropdown menu says “Wi-Fi: No Hardware Installed”. Since we’re all dependent on wireless networking these days, having no functioning wi-fi connection can be very frustrating, but fortunately this is usually a really simple fix.
Wi-Fi Assist is a feature on modern versions of iOS which allows an iPhone to automatically start using the cellular data connection if the established wi-fi connection is poor. Enabling Wi-Fi Assist tends to make overall internet connectivity more reliable, but it has the potential downside of an increase in cellular data usage, which is why some users may want to disable Wi-Fi Assist on iPhone instead. Whether or not to turn off Wi-Fi Assist or leave the feature turned on is really a matter of personal preference and data use, but we’ll show you how to do either on iPhone and cellular equipped iPad devices.
