iOS Software updates

Apple has released iOS 11.2.6 for iPhone and iPad. The software update is intended to fix a bug that causes a specific Telugu character from crashing an iOS device. Additionally, the small system software update patches a bug where some third party apps are not connecting to external accessories.

Separately, Apple has also released macOS 10.13.3 High Sierra Supplemental Update, tvOS 11.2.6, and watchOS 4.2.4, with each of those updates also patching the same corresponding bug.

How to Install iOS 11.2.6 Update

The simplest way to install iOS 11.2.6 is through the Software Update mechanism available via the Settings app in iOS.

Always be sure to back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud or iTunes, or both, before installing any software update.

  1. Open the “Settings” app and go to “General” and then to “Software Update”
  2. When ‘iOS 11.2.6’ is shown as available, tap to “Download & Install”

Users can also install the iOS 11.2.6 software update through iTunes, or with IPSW firmware files available from Apple as well.

The IPSW files linked below are hosted by Apple on Apple servers, for best results, right-click and “Save As” and be sure the file has a .ipsw file extension.

Installing iOS updates with IPSW is fairly easy but is generally considered to be more advanced, and is certainly not a necessary procedure to install a software update.
