macOS Sonoma Download Available Now

MacOS Sonoma is available to download and install now

Apple has released macOS Sonoma, versioned as MacOS 14.0, as a free download for all Mac users. The final version of macOS Sonoma carries the build 23A344, matching the second RC build that was released a week prior.

MacOS Sonoma features an all new redesigned Lock Screen, a snazzy moving wallpaper feature, over 100 new screen savers and wallpapers, the ability to place widgets on the Mac desktop again, many FaceTime improvements including gesture reactions and improvements for screen sharing, FaceTime Video Voicemail support, Safari Profiles support, changes to autocorrect, the ability to turn any website into an app in your Dock, improvements to Messages, inline text predictions, Gaming Mode, Lockdown Mode for Mac, and much more.

How to Download & Upgrade to MacOS Sonoma

Installing macOS Sonoma is super easy, first backup your Mac and then all you need to do is the following:

  1. Go to the  Apple menu on the Mac
  2. Choose “System Settings”
  3. Select “General”
  4. Go to “Software Update”
  5. Choose to “Update Now” for MacOS Sonoma 14.0 to begin downloading and installing the new operating system

The Mac must restart to complete installation.

Of course, if you’re not quite ready to upgrade to MacOS Sonoma, you can wait too.

Can I update from the Sonoma beta to MacOS Sonoma final?

Yes, if you’re running a prior build of MacOS Sonoma beta, you can update directly to the final version, by using the same software update mechanism as usual.

Once you have installed the final version, you may want to disable beta updates, so that you can stay on stable macOS builds for the foreseeable future.

Is my Mac compatible with macOS Sonoma?

MacOS Sonoma is compatible with all Apple Silicon Macs, and many Intel Macs. Specifically, the following Macs support MacOS Sonoma:

  • MacBook Pro, 2018 and later
  • MacBook Air, 2018 and later
  • Mac Mini, 2018 and later
  • Mac Studio, 2022 and later
  • iMac 2019, and later
  • iMac Pro, 2017
  • Mac Pro, 2019 and later

Beyond a compatible Mac, you will need at least 30GB of free disk space to be able to complete the update. The newer the Mac and the more system resources, the better the performance will be.
