iOS 17.1 beta and iPadOS 17.1 beta

Apple has released the first beta versions of iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 for iPhone and iPad users enrolled in their respective beta testing programs.

The beta builds arrive a day after iOS 17.0.2 and iPadOS 17.0.2 were released to the broader public for all users.

Apple is working to bring additional features to iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, and the betas of 17.1 are likely to include some of these apps and capabilities that were withheld from the initial software releases.

Additionally, the first beta version of MacOS Sonoma 14.1, tvOS 17.1, and watchOS 10.1 are also available for beta testers.

How to Download iOS 17.1 Beta 1 & iPadOS 17.1 Beta 1

Assuming you’re still enrolled in the iOS/iPadOS 17 beta programs, the iOS/IPadOS 17.1 beta updates will arrive automatically through the typical software update mechanism:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”
  3. Go to “Software Update”
  4. Select to “Download and Install” for iOS 17.1 Beta 1 / iPadOS 17.1 Beta 1

iOS 17 Beta updates on iPhone and iPad

Just like any other beta or software update, you must restart the device to complete installation.

I don’t want to get these iOS 17.1 beta updates, how do I remove them?

Because the final stable versions of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 were just released, many users who previously participated in the beta programs may no longer want to receive beta updates like iOS 17.1 or iPadOS 17.1 beta on their devices.

If you want to opt-out of beta updates, and remove iOS 17.1 beta or iPadOS 17.1 beta updates from your device, simply do the following:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”
  3. Go to “Software Update”
  4. Choose “Beta Updates” and select “Off”

Turn off the beta updates

This will have you leave the beta testing program, and you will only get stable final builds of system software offered to you again.

Apple usually goes through several beta versions of system software before issuing a final version, thus it’s reasonable to expect iOS 17.1 or iPadOS 17.1 to be released at least a month or two from now.

The latest stable versions of system software for iPhone and iPad are currently iOS 17.0.2 for iPhone and iPadOS 17.0.2 for iPad.
