How to Change HomePod Language
Not everyone who purchases a new HomePod or HomePod Mini is a native English speaker. These users may want to use HomePod in a language that they’re more familiar with. Thankfully, changing your HomePod’s language can be done in a jiffy using your other Apple devices like your iPhone or iPad.
HomePod is a smart speaker that’s powered by Siri and you’ll be communicating with it mostly by using voice commands. By default, Siri uses the default language used on the iPhone or iPad that you used to set up your HomePod. The issue with this is that a lot of foreign speakers use English as the default language on their Apple devices. But, since you need to actually “talk” to your HomePod to get things done, your language preferences may vary from what’s set on your iOS device. In any event, if you wish to change the language that’s used by Siri on your HomePod, we’ve got you covered.
How to Change HomePod Language
You cannot get Siri to change the language on your HomePod with a voice command. Instead, you’ll need to use the Home app. Just follow the steps below:
- Launch the Home app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Check whether you’re in the Home section of the app and long-press on your HomePod listed under Favorite Accessories.
- This will launch the HomePod settings menu with music playback controls shown at the top. Scroll down in this menu.
- You’ll find the language setting under the Siri section. Tap on it to continue.
- Now, you’ll be shown a list of all the languages that Siri can speak and understand. Select the language you prefer and you’re good to go.
That’s it. You’ve successfully changed the HomePod language setting with the Home app.
Your language selection will be automatically updated and Siri will no longer use the default language setting that’s used on your other Apple devices. Instead, Siri will respond in your native language that you’re more comfortable communicating with.
At the time of this writing, users have six different languages to choose from for their HomePods. Each of these languages has multiple variations, based on the country that uses it. For example, if you select English (United Kingdom) instead of English (United States), Siri will pretty much sound like a native British speaker and will also be able to better understand certain British terms that you may use while speaking.
In addition to these settings, you can further personalize your HomePod by changing Siri’s voice and accent according to your liking using the Home app. Similar to languages, you have six different accents to choose from. If you’re interested, you can learn more about that here.
We hope you were able to change the default language that’s used by Siri on your HomePod without any hassle. Does the language setting on your iPhone differ from the one on your HomePod? Do share your experiences and make sure to drop your valuable feedback in the comments section down below.
