Tim Cook talks with Brian Williams The first major TV interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook aired last night, where he spoke at length with NBC’s Brian Williams. A wide variety of topics are discussed, including Cook’s role as CEO, Steve Jobs, the mishaps of Apple Maps, Apple TV, manufacturing, the future of Apple, The Jetsons (yes, the cartoon), competition, and other little tidbits, like Apple’s purpose which led to this great quote from Cook:

[Apple’s role] is to give you something you didn’t know you wanted. And then once you get it, you can’t imagine your life without it. And you can count on Apple doing that.

It’s well worth watching if you’re a fan of Apple and Apple History, and you haven’t seen it yet set aside the 20 minutes or so to see the interview.

The two part interview series is embedded below:

Part 2:

The videos require Flash, and if you’re having issues watching the embedded videos, you can try viewing them directly on NBC’s website instead.

It’s not OS X Daily’s fault. NBC is the place to complain.

“To watch video in the new msnbc.com player, you will need to update your version of the Adobe Flash Player.
      The process is brief.”

No, I don’t need to install that crappy Flash Player. You just need to drop Flash and start using HTML5. I don’t care the process is brief. I don’t want that insecure piece of crap on my system. I wouldn’t even want to use plug-ins even if they were safe, because websites should work on every device, no matter what operating system or browser is being used. Unbelievable web developers (and even big websites like NBC) still use those crappy plug-ins.

brian williams proves himself a petty, pandering light-weight. instead of going after insightful topics, he pounds topics to uncover superficial meanings.

to mr. cook’s credit, he endures journalistic mediocrity, and comes across as the understated visionary ceo of one of the world’s most powerful companies.

next time a hurricane hits, i propose that brian williams be sacrificed to get the story from the outmost jetty in the rockaways…
