A fair number of Mac users have discovered that Spotlight Search is not working well in macOS Tahoe and Sequoia, either missing files, apps, and sometimes not working at all to find any local file. For some users the issues with Spotlight happens right after they update to macOS Tahoe or Sequoia, and for others it may happen later seemingly at random. The most obvious examples of Spotlight issues with macOS Tahoe and Sequoia relate to Spotlight having an inability to find files and data that you search for on the Mac, often even with exact match names, but what can make the search failure issue particularly strange is that some files and search data does return properly.

The third betas of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and MacOS Sequoia 15.2, are available for beta testers of Apple system software.

The latest betas continue to emphasize on new Apple Intelligence features, including ChatGPT integration, Genmoji custom Emoji creation, Image Playground for AI image generation, and more. These new AI features are in addition to the existing helpful Apple Intelligence features that includes writing tools, summaries, smart replies, and similar functionality.

Separately from AI features, there are also some refinements to the Settings apps, iPhone Mirroring can be used with Personal Hotspot at the same time, Find My gains an ability to share items, the Mac adds an optional menu bar weather widget, and a few other smaller features as well.

Find My Mac is an incredibly valuable aspect of iCloud that allows you to find your Mac by using another Apple device’s Find My app, or through iCloud on the web. Aside from the obvious anti-theft aspects that make Find My Mac so important, the majority of users are more likely end up using Find My Mac to track down a misplaced laptop bag, or a lost travel luggage scenario. Find My Mac is great, but there are some situations where you might want to turn it off and disable Find My Mac. You can install and run Windows 11 on a Mac, without having to overwrite the MacOS operating system, by installing Windows 11 into a virtual machine. Virtual machines are self-contained installations of operating systems that can be used for a variety of purposes, from testing to demonstrations, to running software that runs on Windows but not on Mac.

Apple has spent the last few days trickling releases of new Mac hardware, debuting a revamped iMac with an M4 chip and new colors, a redesigned Mac Mini that is smaller in size and now has an M4 chip, and the MacBook Pro lineup has been revamped with M4 processors as well. Though not common, some Mac users are encountering a strange error message that says “Failed to personalize the software update. Please try again.” when attempting to update their Mac to MacOS Sequoia, and sometimes even with other MacOS software updates too.

Apple has released iOS 17.7.1 and iPadOS 17.7.1 for iPhone and iPad users who are not running iOS 18, which was just updated to includes support for Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1.

The software updates include important security fixes, making them important updates to install if you’re still running the prior major version of iOS/iPadOS. No new features are included.

Apple has released iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 to bring Apple Intelligence features to iPhone and iPad. The initial set of Apple Intelligence AI features include writing tools, summaries for messages and emails, and other handy capabilities. Apple Intelligence has strict system requirements however and is not available on all devices.

Aside from Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.1 and ipadOS 18.1 include various bug fixes, security patches, and some smaller tweaks and features, including more customization options for Control Center. iPhone also gains an ability to record phone calls, and AirPods gain some new hearing health features. Technically the original Starcraft has been available to download, install, and play for free, for a while now, but the instructions on how to do it have changed. Mac users now have another Artificial Intelligence assistant option available to them natively, thanks to the new Perplexity app for Mac.

Perplexity offers a free AI-powered answer engine that uses multiple models, including GPT-4o and Claude 3, and perhaps best of all, it cites sources with its answers, so that you can independently confirm or research more on your answers.

Another nice aspect of Perplexity for Mac is that it only requires MacOS Ventura 13 or newer, offering another native AI option for Mac users who aren’t yet on MacOS Sequoia (It’s worth remembering that you can also use ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and other AI tools through the web on basically any operating system, and you can also run Llama LLM locally on a Mac (including an uncensored model if you don’t want bias)).
