iOS 6 IPSW [Direct Download Links]

Sep 19, 2012 - 90 Comments

iOS 6 IPSW

iOS 6 is now available for everyone to download. Most users are best served updating to iOS 6 through OTA or iTunes, but advanced users can upgrade manually with firmware files. This has several advantages, particularly for those upgrading multiple devices in a household or institution, or for those updating from older versions of iOS.

The following firmware links are hosted directly by Apple, using IPSW files requires iTunes. You will want to have the latest version of iTunes installed before attempting a direct firmware update with IPSW.

Regardless of how you decide to upgrade to iOS 6, just remember to back up first. The likelihood of something going wrong is slim but it’s better safe than sorry.

look for iphone 3gs 6.0 ipsw download the one that is properly named use red snow How to jailbreak tethered on iOS 6.1.6 using Redsn0w

Step-1: Download Redsn0w and save the application in a folder named Redsn0w on the desktop

Step-2: Download iOS 6.0 firmware file for the iOS device (The trick is to point Redsn0w to iOS 6.0 firmware file and note iOS 6.1.6 firmware file.)

Download link: iPhone / iPod Touch

Ensure that you have downloaded the correct version of firmware for the iPhone model.

Step-3: Connect the device to the computer and double click Redsn0w zip file and extract the application. Navigate to Redsn0w folder and launch Redsn0w application

Note: Windows 7 users should run Redsn0w as Administrator. For that, right-click on the Redsn0w and select ‘Run as an Administrator.’

      Step-4: Click on Extras button

Step-5: Then click on Select IPSW button. Navigate and select the firmware file downloaded in step-2. It should successfully identify it

Step-6: Navigate to Redsn0w’s main page and click on Jailbreak button

Step-7: Redsn0w will now start preparing jailbreak data

Step-8: You will now be prompted to select the jailbreak options. Ensure Cydia is selected and click on Next button to continue. iPhone 3GS users can also select Enable battery percentage option

Step-9: You will be prompted to put your iOS device into DFU mode. Redsn0w will guide you through the necessary steps

      a) Hold Power button on your iOS device for three seconds

      b) Hold Home button simultaneously and keep the two buttons pressed for 10 seconds

      c) Now release Power button while keeping Home button pressed until Redsn0w detects the device.

Step-10: Your iOS device should reboot now [Do not forget to release the Home button.]

Step-11: The iOS device will reboot again and Redsn0w will now begin uploading new RAM disk and kernel

Step-12: You will be notified once the jailbreak process is completed. Click on OK and then Quit button to exit the application

Step-13: The rest of the process will take place on your iOS device. Wait until the process is completed. The iOS device will reboot again. You will see Home screen on your iOS device but Cydia would still be missing. This is since you still need to tether boot your iOS device using Redsn0w. Follow these steps below.

      How to boot tethered

      Step-14: Launch Redsn0w again

      Step-15: Click on Extras button

Step-16: Then click on Select IPSW button. Navigate and select the firmware file downloaded in step-2

Step-17: Then click on Just Boot button

Step-18: You will be prompted to plug the iOS device to the computer and switch it off again. Follow the instructions and click on the Next button to move to the next screen

Step-19: Now place the iOS device into DFU mode.

Step-20: Redsn0w will recognise the iOS device in DFU mode and apply the limerain exploit. The iOS device will reboot and a pineapple logo will appear, indicating a tethered boot

    • PERSON says:

To fix this you can just restore your iPhone if you have a recent backup (1 day – 2 weeks) but if you don’t, you have to downgrade to last update. If this doesn’t work, try another forum. This usually works but doesn’t work every time from luck.

My sources: I had all iPhone types and jail-broke them all and this happened to me to the first two iPhones.

Please im downloaded ios 4.3.3 and now my iphone 3gs is stuck in rocovery how can i fix it ?????

  21. Valentino says:

To all having problems with downloading. Can I recommend that you use a download manager. If you are using mac, get igetter and if you are using windows get FDM (free download manager). They support resume. If you are anywhere like I am (South Africa) during a download like this I can get up to 20 disconnects, a download manager stops this and keeps the file integrity. My two cents worth. Good luck

I’m trying to restore and update a second hand iPhone 3GS. I’ve changed the file extensions of the files from .dmg to .ipsw but I’m getting an incompatible firmware error when I try to update in iTunes. Help?

Both iTunes and snowbreeze says the ipsw files I downloaded from here are corrupted. What to do?

    • Dbrer says:

The IPSW are hosted by Apple, they are certainly not corrupted. You need to right-click and Save As, it’s a .ipsw file not a .zip file. Use a different browser.

  27. Forhad says:

I cannot understand whats wrong with iOS 6 ipsw firmware for iPhone 4 (GSM). Every time I click download, i got a file of 1980KB only by which i couldn’t update my phone. I was also trying to download the iOS from my apple device but it shows error on the middle of download. I also tried to update my phone through iTunes but there is also a same problem like the first problem(1980KB File size and it shows error after download). So what can I do now?

  28. Amerist says:

These links are from Apple. If you look at the source URL you can see that pretty clearly so any of you having problems with the content of the firmware file should either re-download or take it up with apple. Yes, the iPad 3,3 file should be marked as the GSM ipsw and not the CDMA. I can confirm that the iPhone 4S GSM and iPhone 4 GSM ipsw files are working. Again if you are having problems, you probably got a corrupted download. It happens.

Can someone help me in that?

  40. James says:

I was updating my iPod Touch OTA to iOS 6, and it ended up showing the Connect to iTunes screen, which is weird because that kind of gets rid of the whole OTA idea, but it was fine since I have a MacBook with 10.8.2. Anyway, I ended up having to restore it and my latest backup was from August 9th, so that kind of pissed me off. I just don’t understand why that happened. It’s not jailbroken or anything like that, by the way.

    • jess says:

james did you lose all yur songs and photos? my itouch is showing the connect to i tunes and i dont have itunes on new computer.. nothing is backed up. do you think i will lose everything?? im scared!!

yes you will lose everything you idiot always make a backup before you update. Didn’t you read at the top?
ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP AND SYNC YOUR iDEVICE WITH iTUNES.

  51. Ben says:

Hi. I installed the iOS 6 GM last week? Is this update 100% the same as that? When I click on update it tells me that its up to date so assuming it is but wanted to check. Thanks

  52. Jonathan says:

I wonder where people get these links.

    Where did you get it?

  53. Alex says:

You guys posted the same garbage everyone else did – the DMG files, not IPSW.

    • TechButton says:

just change the extension to ispw and it will work.. the ispw is just a dmg file with a different extension..

      • Marc says:

Which file do I change though? There are many! You would think they would have already had them as ipsw files considering thats what they are listing them here for

  54. Scott says:

I believe the iPad 3 GSM and CDMA versions are swapped. Isn’t the iPad 3 LTE GSM version the iPad 3,3? and the CDMA version the iPad 3,2?

  55. Marcus says:

What is the difference between Iphone 4 (3,2) and the other Iphone 4 updates?

    • Raghav says:

Exactly.. other sites are listing iPhone4 (3,2) as GSM which is wrong.
      iPhone 4 (3,1) – GSM
      iPhone 4 (3,2) – ??
      iPhone 4 (3,3) – CDMA

I tried iPhone4 (3,2) for my GSM handset and it gave me incompatible firmware error.
